Hubs

The Rayman games feature a variety of hubs (level-selection screens). I thought it might be interesting to see which one people liked the best.

~Personally, I think it would be very interesting to see a 3D version of the map/level mixture seen in R3 GBA and RRR1 GBA.

I like the R3 GBA idea: a worldmap with level selections levels! :D

All I like best is the Rayman 1 and Junior world map.

Is The Front really a proper hub? Actually, what is The Front exactly? Is it the network of Teensie stone circles?

I like the Front the best, even though I don't have a Playstation2.

It's definitely the whole stuff in Revolution. I mean three whole levels are a lot better than just a map or a menu.

The front definitely makes the Rayman world a whole lot more believable and fun, so I picked that one.

It does sometimes kind of suck walking back and forth from levels though.

It's a term used collectively for the Minisaurus Plain, Globox's House and Rainbow Creek.

~I voted for the Hall of Doors. The Front is sort of better, but the Hall has something that it doesn't.

You're not the only one who thinks the Hall of Doors is better. I voted for that too. :)

My choice depends of how it's done, not of what kind of hub it is. The Hall of Doors has a nicer atmosphere than the Front, which is why I chose for the Hall of Doors. The Front is also well done, it shows the "war" aspect from R2 a little more by adding the "Rayman vs Army" battle and the pirates imprisoning the baby globoxes.
Actually, I think they're both awesome. Rayman 3's hub comes nowhere near them. :P

Also, isn't the Front a level-selection level? :P

Well personally I'd go for The Front because it creates a "level continuum" rather than typical spiral doors, or ports, or whatever that we find in most standard games. But the stone circles provide shortcuts too, so it's not tedious either.

The level selection device in Rayman 3 is beyond compare. I hate it and always have hated it. The only levels that seem to interconnect are the shortcut and the summit, but that's a one-way ticket.

I like the front the most. The hall of doors was just another generic level slection screen. R3's was terrbile...

The Hall of Doors was far from generic...

This video of the final battle in the Dreamcast version. It includes a tour of the Isle of Doors. Near the beginning. Watch it.

Saestrol FTW.

How was it? It was just like a level selection map from games like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World except it was painfully slow.

I still prefer the Hall of Doors system overall. R2's system felt so long and drawn out. Really, I think of it as attempting continuum but failing at it.

The music. Also, the holograms. The Spiral Doors. And the stars in the background. The stream. The trees. The whole fucking thing, basically. The Prison Ship/Crow's Nest area is the height of awesome.

Wow, the Isle of Doors looks awesome. Only problem I have with it is it seems a bit random and misplaced. What's an island doing in the middle of nowhere, and why should it be used to connect all the stranding levels? Still I much prefer it to the Hall of Doors, which seemed dull and boring.
