Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
Wow, in that video Rayman's in 3D. Could that mean that we'll get a 3D Rayman platformer for the iPod Touch and iPhone ? That would be so great
And if it becomes a success, we might even get Rayman 4!

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
I'd say that this is either an R1 port along the lines of Rayman DSiWare or an R2 port along the lines of Rayman DS. Pity about the choice of platform though; the thing doesn't even have buttons... Why not a PS3 or Xbox 360 version of an old Rayman game?

I think this.spiraldoor wrote:an R2 port along the lines of Rayman DS.
They also used RRR font in the video. I wonder what that could mean.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
That would be awesome. But it seems like they're just porting Rayman to only handheld consoles now for some reason...spiraldoor wrote:IWhy not a PS3 or Xbox 360 version of an old Rayman game?
Maybe they're trying to compete with James Pond?? Well I don't have a problem with all these ports, as it allows more people to get the chance to play it and it's better than no more Rayman at all.
One would presume this to be a Rayman 2 port ala Rayman DS but the Rabbids lettering and emphasis on Rayman being "back" makes me think that this might be a new game. Or maybe they're just being lazy.
Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
There are plenty of platformers on the iPod Touch / iPhone that are fun to play despite the lack of buttonsPity about the choice of platform though; the thing doesn't even have buttons... Why not a PS3 or Xbox 360 version of an old Rayman game?

Oh god, not another port.
In which version of R2 did he do the grimace thing again?

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
I was about to name the Dreamcast version, but I was beaten to it by two people at the same time.
Probably nothing; they just picked up the first vaguely Rayman-related font they could find and threw it in there... the emphasis on Rayman makes it seem very unlikely that this will be another Rabbids game.PluMGMK wrote:They also used RRR font in the video. I wonder what that could mean.
Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
It's probably a port of the N64 or DS version with some extras, just like they did with R1 on DSiWare ( which was also developed by Gameloft, right? ).
One of the extras is probably that grimace animation, which they took from the Dreamcast version.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
Is an iPhone capable of running Rayman 2?
I somehow doubt it.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
Don't be so quick to dismiss it, the iPhone is pretty powerful. Plus the DS managed to run R2

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
Last time I checked the iPhone can **just about** run FF7 in a PS1 emulator.
Shame I don't have one of these and I'm probly not likely to be able to pester my sister's boyfriend into getting it on his.

I think it's a Rayman 2 port. The music in the teaser sounds like a remix of the Menhir Hills music and there's this strange sound effect which plays when you drop a magical sphere.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
This is all marketing, they've probably just used Rayman 2 visuals and sounds because they thought it would be better. Just like the cover of Rayman Advance.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
Actually, the iPod Touch's powerful enough for a beautiful port of Rayman 2.
And, i guess that they'll port the Nintendo DS version. The Nintendo DS version already has support for touch screens and the architectures are also similar I think.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
I suppose this is another port of Rayman 1, as it says '1995 Ubisoft' in the footer line. And I have nothing against it, as it will not ruin the possibility for a Rayman 4 release in the future, while more people get to play the original.
And yes, the iPhone/iPodTouch is running an ARM CPU, which means it shares the same architecture as Nintendo's GBA and DS.

Doesn't this just mean that Ubisoft copyrighted Rayman in 1995 ? I don't think this has to be a sing that this game will be a Rayman 1 port.I suppose this is another port of Rayman 1, as it says '1995 Ubisoft' in the footer line
About the architecture: I've made a mistake. The problem is that, although the Nintendo DS and the iPhone/iPod touch share the same architecture, games for the Nintendo DS are written in C/C++ and games for the iPhone/iPod touch are written in Objective-C. And the API's aren't the same as well. So I don't think my previous argument stands.
Well, i think that because of the fact that Rayman is in 3D in that video, we could assume a port Rayman 2.

Re: Rayman is back! on iPhone and iPod Touch
This is definitely a port of Rayman 2, no doubt about it. The R2 music and the R2 model assure it. Still, it's great to see Rayman again!
If he gets enough of these shitty ports maybe they'll give him a NEW game.
Nah.
Nah.
