New PS3 Control System
Everyone check this out if you haven't already! Sony have finally officially unveiled a new control system for PS3 which is remarkably similar to that of the Nintendo Wii, but with supposedly more accurate movement detection and obviously far better graphics.
I think this looks awesome and I'll definitely be getting it if there are enough games compatible. What does everyone think??

Re: New PS3 Control System
It looks kind of interesting, but I don't think I'll be getting one. Motion controls in games is not something that appeals to me. I will be interested to see how well this 'PlayStation Move' device sells and how the Wii demographic reacts...
Also, how do you think this compares to Natal? I really dislike the idea of playing a game with no controller of any description whatsoever, even more than I dislike the idea of playing a game with nothing but a touchscreen.

Re: New PS3 Control System
Hmm I reckon Natal is something easier said than done, I agree that no controller whatsoever sounds unappealing, I don't like the idea of, for example, playing tennis by just making the movement with my hand rather than at least a controller, but who knows what it'll end up like...
The two biggest reasons I haven't got a Wii until now were: 1. Not a great selection of games and 2. Awful graphics
So the PS3 already has an awesome selection of games, and arguably the best graphics around (other than PC), so I'm willing to give it a shot if it's not too pricey

If Microsoft can make Natal work as well as they say they can it will most likely be extraordinarily awesome. I doubt that's gonna happen, though. Microsoft aren't exactly known for keeping their promises.

Re: New PS3 Control System
While I'm fine with regular controllers, I wouldn't mind a Wii with decent games and actual power.

Re: New PS3 Control System
People say that Heavy Rain would be better with motion controls, so that will likely be patched...

I also remember this Heavy Rain graphics dispute about how realistic they were. They totally weren't. It looked like a painting, not real life at all.
OT: I don't really know if this is a 'great' idea, because Sony already lost a crapload of money by making the PS3, so i don't know how this will turn out either.

Re: New PS3 Control System
I have done some more research on the Move, and apparently it's much more advanced than the Wii remote and uses the same sort of motion-capture technology used to create some CGI film charcters, Gollum for example. I don't think it's as much of a Wii rip-off as most people seem to think it is, as it only copies the general idea but used vastly different methods...
Also semi-relevant: What do you think of the 3DS? It has the potential to be amazing, but I really, really hope that it has only one screen. That was the one thing I disliked most about the original DS. The second screen is just a useless distracting waste of space in most DS games. Why can't they just use a HUD, like, say, every console and PC game ever?
Also, if current trends are any indication, a 3D PSP is almost a certainty.

Re: New PS3 Control System
Well, the fact that the 3DS is still called 'DS' which stands for 'Dual Screens', makes me feel that it just might have two screens still. I agree that this is not useful, and one screen is perfectly adequate (maybe they could change to a bearable resolution if they disposed of one screen).
TBH I don't yet like the idea of 3D gaming becoming standard, although I don't mind if there were a choice whether to play in 3D or normal... for home console games anyway. When it comes to portable gaming, I'd say that making it 3D is a bad idea, but I've been proven wrong in the past.
As for the analogue control and force feedback aspects however, this gave me a little hope for the new DS, and it might end up being desirable, but who knows. The next PSP is going to be very powerful, and certainly will have dual analogue control (maybe force feedback if we're lucky...?)

Re: New PS3 Control System
'3DS' is only a codename, like Dolphin or Revolution (or Natal, in fact). The final product will probably be called something different. Maybe they decided to call it '3DS' because of the pun on '3D' and 'DS', and regardless of how many screens it has? And if it does have one screen, they can still make it backwards-compatible; the upper half of the screen can act as one screen, and the lower half can act as another.
Apparently the 3D technology for the 3DS will be based on head-tracking, so it won't require glasses... they might combine it with some kind of motion sensitivity, but I'm not sure if I'd like to see that. I remain optimistic about 3D, both in film and gaming. It's hard to convert a film to 3D well in post-production, but with a game it should be very easy, seeing as how all the models are in 3D to begin with. And as long as it's optional, it can't be doing any harm.
I hope the next PSP has dual analogue sticks, R2 and L2 buttons and optional 3D functionality. I think it should definitely be more powerful than a Gamecube or Xbox. Probably not as powerful as an Xbox 360 though, that would be insane. Somewhere between the current- and last-gen systems would be cool.

Re: New PS3 Control System
The Nintendo DSi XL its out, some mins ago i saw it in tv.
Re: New PS3 Control System
It's been out since the beginning of march here, I was thinking of getting one, but changed my mind owing to the rank colours and huge screens making the picture look even worse... Has it only just been released over there?

Re: New PS3 Control System
It seems stupid of Nintendo to announce the 3DS when the DSi XL wasn't even available in all regions yet. It's been speculated that Nintendo were forced to announce it against their will somehow.
