In order to celebrate the launch of our newly created speedrunning section, we are hosting, you guessed it, a speedrunning contest! SpeedRay is open to all, with rare Rayman merch to win for the best players, and blue, shiny Tings as a consolation prize for all!

Rayman 1 (Any% PS1 - USA, speedrun.com rules apply)

• First prize: Rayman Origins keychain (sealed)
• Second prize: 2500 Tings and a special rank

Rayman 2 (PC - Any%, speedrun.com rules apply)

• First prize: Rayman standing beside a bush (M6 Multimedia figure)

Rayman 3 (GCN - Any% or GCN Emu - Any%, speedrun.com rules apply)

How to participate

All you have to do is speedrun one of the games above and post your run in this topic. The run will have to be validated either by the moderators at speedrun.com or a member of our speedrunning team, but not by yourself.

Speaking of which, while we already have a bunch of talented runners moderating our speedrunning section, we are still actively recruiting, so please get in touch if you're an experienced runner and would like to help set up and animate our super cool speedrunning subforum.

You can participate in several categories, but you may not submit older runs. The contest will run from February 1st to February 28th, and all runs must be recorded and submitted during this period. Submissions are not final, and you're more than welcome to keep posting better runs: we will only consider your best time.

Just some more things to note about the Rayman Legends rules. Any version of the game is allowed to be used and the use of co-op is not allowed since it saves about a minute from the run and I'm sure not everyone has a second controller to use. If anyone has questions about the run or any tech involved, either ask me or join the Rayman Speedrunning Discord which can be found at the speedrun.com page and ask there.

I love games like Origins but I've never tried speedrunning it (or any other Rayman game, yet). Unfortunately I end up trying to collect as many Lums as I can and end up taking forever to complete them.

Hey-Howdy-Hey, I have a few questions about running Rayman 2.

-Is there any way to check if my game is running too fast before I download the RibShark graphics fix? I don't want to download anything on my computer unless I absolutely have to.
-Is the GOG release of the game allowed? I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be, but that's the version I play on and I want to make sure.
-If the GOG release isn't allowed, where else can I download the game that would be acceptable?
-That's it, but if there's anything else I should know that wasn't stated on the speedrun.com rules then I would love to know! Thank you

Maybe you could time the intro cutscene and compare it to the other runs? I'm not too sure honestly, I'll ask Rib for guidance.

Why would the game run too fast by the way?

I'm not too sure, but it's a known issue apparently. Crob, can you post a clip of just one level so that we can check the game speed for you?

It's really annoying, Umber can sink into the lava before the cutscene ends, so you don't regain control in time to jump off. As I recall, it's an NVIDIA issue...

Thank you, but I decided to stop being stubborn and just download the fix. After what PluMGK said about Umber, I realized that's happened to me more than once After I installed it I also noticed a difference in how fast the opening cutscene played, which I always just assumed was a glitch of the GOG version. So a good way for other people to check might just be to let that opening cutscene in the ocean play out, and it the camera stalls on the island before the logo appears, it means it's running too fast. But yes, I'm all good now.

That's probably the best thing to do, Rib is a trusted member of the community and his tools are used extensively, so there's nothing to worry about here! And nobody likes swimming in lava anyway.
