Rayman DS decompiling/datamining status?

Post by Empovyle »

Hello everyone. I'm trying to learn about the state of Rayman DS modding/datamining/etc for a project I am doing for RetroAchievements. For those unfamiliar with RA, we dig through RAM to make custom achievements. For my project, I need to research all of the game's secrets and mostly unknown tidbits so that I can make interesting achievements involving them.

How much exploration has been done surrounding this game's code? I understand this game probably is not on most people's radar because it is one of the worst ports of Rayman 2 to exist, and as such, it has not been easy finding discussion about it.

One of my main interests is learning about the Tomb of the Ancients secret and its availability in Rayman DS. The wiki page says that it isn't possible to access the area in a legitimate way because the respective buttons for the cheat are not available or the cheat was disabled (https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Tomb_of_th ... nts_secret).
  • Does anybody have a source or any info on how we know that the cheat was disabled?
  • I noticed that the cheat codes are different across all of the other versions, so I would assume that the code for DS would be different as well, which makes the wiki's statement even more confusing. By going out of bounds with the super helicopter, I've discovered that the box is present and is below the level. Could there possibly be a cheat code that nobody has discovered yet that would shift the box up onto the level geometry?
  • Perhaps it would be possible to create a ROM patch to "enable" the cheat code again if it truly is disabled?

From what I've read, the game's source code has been leaked and a level editor has been released using the Rayman 2 engine. I assume the source code doesn't include the complete original Rayman DS code because it is mostly involving a build of Rayman Raving Rabbids, is that accurate?

Is there a way to import the official Rayman DS levels into this level editor? It would be especially fascinating to be able to view them with a free-cam, something along the lines of the Spyro World Viewer program for those who are familiar with that. I'm not sure how in-depth this level editor is, so please forgive me if this is not even within the scope of that program.

I'm greatly interested in any information that you have to share about this game. Thank you in advance!

Not much has been done with Rayman DS specifically since it's a pretty bad port, so it hasn’t gotten as much attention as other versions of Rayman 2. The source code leak you’re referring to is mostly for a Rayman Raving Rabbids build, so it doesn’t include the full DS code. As for the Tomb of the Ancients secret, the cheat being disabled seems to be based on the button inputs not working, but I haven’t seen a deep dive into whether the code itself was fully removed.
