Guards are enemies that would have appeared in the 2D version of Rayman 2 had it not been cancelled. They are orange, limbless robots that were serving for the Chief in his takeover of the Glade of Dreams. They were eventually replaced by the Robo-Pirates in the final game.
In the cancelled 2D version of Rayman 2
The guards were going to be the main soldiers that helped the Chief in converting the Glade of Dreams into a cold ball of metal, by capturing all of the inhabitants in Rayman's island. Their structure are similar to the Chief, and had guns that could shoot projectiles at Rayman from different heights if he was nearby. Sometimes the guards could jump from the background to the foreground, and vice versa.
The guards could either stay stationary on a platform or move around, mostly when Rayman is not within their range to attack. It took three telescopic fist punches to defeat the guards. When they were defeated, most of their bodies crumbled; what was left was their head and their feet, which they used to jump off-screen.
When the game was scrapped in favour of a 3D version, the guards were replaced by the Robo-Pirate army.
