Even if it is a smaller component, it can still be said that these games use the engine. The industry sees partial use of of game engines all the time; like how Sonic Origins uses Hedgehog Engine 2 exclusively for its menus while the rest of the game uses the Retro Engine. Historical gaming press also has a habit of fabricating the technology used in games to make them seem more impressive.
