The Top of the World is the strangely named penultimate level before the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remake Rayman DS. The Top of the World was taken out of the PlayStation version and Rayman 2: Revolution, although in the latter its two segments still appear, in the form of the Chair Ride minigame and the second half of the Echoing Caves.
The globe's peak is a high-tech Robo-Pirate fortress located far from civilization. The only way to reach the hidden fort is via a speeding chair. The fortress itself is intensely patrolled solely by Barrel Pirates, though Ape Pirates and small outposts guard the entrance. The fortress is characterized by its many red carpet-filled hallways.
Original versionPhase 1Rayman must kill the Ape Pirate and steal his flying chair to enter the pirate base.... avoiding all obstacles in the way. Phase 2As Rayman arrives in the Top of the World's Robo-Pirate installation, an alarm begins to sound. The Barrel Pirates patrolling the corridors are on the alert, and soon Rayman must defeat several of them. After passing through many crate-filled storage areas, he discovers that the level's Teensie cage is nowhere near the exit. He must backtrack to search out the Teensie, which is hidden in a secret passageway; after freeing the Teensie, Rayman must escort him to the end of the level. The Teensie is not found in a cage, instead relaxing on a chair and only getting up when Rayman unblocks the door.
Dreamcast versionThe level is identical to that of the original version. PlayStation versionThe level is not present in this version. PlayStation 2 versionThe level is not present in this version. The first segment on the level exists as a mini-game, titled Roller Coaster Challenge. It contains 20 Red Lums instead of the 33 Yellow Lums. The Green Lum checkpoint is also absent. The second segment of this level exists as Phase 3 of The Echoing Caves.
