In return for being rescued by Rayman, Carmen would help him to stay underwater for longer periods provided he followed her and breathed into the air bubbles she produced. In the PS version of ''Rayman 2'', Carmen led Rayman to the [[Sanctuary of Water and Ice]]; in all other versions, she leads him to the end of the level.

In ''[[Rayman 2: Revolution]]'', Carmen makes an additional appearance following Whale Bay in the ocean outside the [[Sanctuary of Stone and Fire]]. The rescue of [[Globox]] and Carmen is required to access the Sanctuary, as Carmen must eat the thorny root blocking the entrance.

Following her oceanic appearance, Carmen appears every now and then if Rayman returns to the area outside of the sanctuary.

Rayman rides Carmen in one of the loading animations in the game; this is the only loading animation that is not present anywhere else in the game, possibly meaning that Rayman may have originally been going to ride Carmen.
