As far as I recall, there's the Memory Realm, essentially a forest-themed Hall of Doors-like place where certain locations will trigger something in Rayman's memories, sending him back in time to re-experience them, sometimes quite literally.

Oh yes, that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind! Not that it will happen, but if it were to.
Imco97 wrote:Anyway, Ad, I'm wondering, is there any kind of logical order in which you guys are doing all this?
I mean, I've seen environmental works, I've seen game play mechanics and I've seen modelling of sorts, but I'm just wondering if you're doing everything at random and making what you feel like.
Don't get me wrong, I mean, I love the way this is slowly coming together, it's just that I'm a little confused how you can create all this stuff when the overall story isn't yet completed (unless it is, of course)
The story has been 'complete' for a while, I just hadn't finished writing it down until a month or two ago. By 'complete', I mean it has a beginning, middle and end, and fairly fleshed-out intricacies. The reason I'm collaborating with Plejadenwolf on touching up the story is because I want it to be as good as it can be.

I'm working on prototype-programming the game's mechanics (which includes making whiteboxes/level design tests for them) while Spanex is modelling environmental assets, and when she's done a batch, I also put them into the engine and create an environment with them, then preview the gameplay with full environmental visuals, or at least, what we have so far. It's a rather slow process though, because, well, you know exactly why.
Shrooblord wrote:If it's anything like how I'm approaching my game (which I strongly feel it is), it's pretty much 'whatever he feels like' but, of course, with an order of priorities. If he needs to work on Rayman's base mechanics and Ly's model, he's probably gonna go for mechanics until he gets fed up with it and distracts himself with the model for a while.
This too.

Thanks!
Shrooblord wrote:Heh. When I search Google Images for 'Polokus Rayman 2', among a lot of RPC pictures from the wiki and the obligatory Yu-Gi-Oh card with him on it, is a picture from Revenge of the Dark. You're getting popular, Addy!
I've actually found it to be quite a common thing for ROTD pictures to show up on Rayman-related searches, not to sound as if I'm bragging. You'll often find one in the first few pages. :fou:
Master wrote:Looking it up, the last time that figure was given appears to be 2011, more recently Ad has stuck by no official release date.
Yeah, I never confirmed anything, I just said 'hopefully this' and 'maybe that'. There is no expected release date.
saerleiya wrote:Adsolution, I know you made all the previous stuff disappear from the first post for more clarity and because you are planning to create a website specifically designed for ROTD, but would it be possible to at least leave a link to your YT channel during the transition so people would be enabled to easily access all the already available content?
Sure, something like that, I'm thinking about it. I'm rather busy this week, but I'll see if I can tend to some community-centric ROTD cosmetics .

And it's free-roaming too. Sort of taking the idea of the Front (though less bloated) with the atmosphere of the Hall of Doors. Of course, I'm not literally going to imitate those, it's simply taking inspiration - it's distinctly its own thing.

I remember in 2010 when RayFan987 or 976 or something like that(hullo Adsolution :D) posted some footage of this I was like OMG!
You're doing good work, it's fucking fantastic, continue like that :D
Also, do you plan adding some Rayman 4 concept arts (cancelled game) to your game (like making a level with 3D Band Land) ?
Thanks :)

All the footage disappeared a bit, but a Band Land part was already planned and Ad' had made some recording while moving around in it in his last video about the game one or two years ago. You could watch Rayman wlaking here and there on drums and falling at some point if I remember.

Nearly every piece of Rayman 4 concept art is being implemented in some way. The giant mushroom tree, 'Music Mountain', Picture City, the Temporal Palace, Dark Rayman's layer, and so on.

Also, I'm working on the website in Adobe Muse, it's getting somewhere now! :D

I've just gone done a looksee at the youtube channel. Not only is it unexpectedly chock full of comedy gold, but the glimpses of Rayman's jump animation bring literal tears to my eyes. Perfection.

Also, Adsolution, had a question: Do you think I could run the game in Ultra/High graphical settings with a GT 620?

I don't think he can reliably answers you right now, as several aspects of the game are not finished.
It will mainly depends on the settings he defined for Ultra/High too.

But considering he's using CryEngine for ROTD, I'd say a GT620 will have a hard time running smoothly in Ultra and maybe even High settings. I hope Spanex's textures are not too detailed to handle (not against Spanex, her work is amazing).

So you think I could run it at like 1920*1080 with low texture settings?

I think so. You don't have a great graphic card, but it can probably handle even very spec-consuming games. Sure, you will have 10 FPS or something :D.

Of course!
But don't laugh, I can run Super Mario Sunshine at 2.5x texture with HD Texture pack at smooth 60fps

And said jumping animation (actually every animation has already been completely redone and improved. I can't wait to show you guys, once we're ready for a showcase of course.

Not a chance! You might be able to manage on Medium methinks, going off of how things are looking at the moment and in the near future.
saerleiya wrote:I hope Spanex's textures are not too detailed to handle (not against Spanex, her work is amazing).
The textures are quite high resolution, though not ridiculously. Most character, terrain and large model textures are 2048p, and most small-to-medium model textures (a plum, barrel, door, etc) are 512p to 1024p. Skyboxes/backgrounds/cloud overlays, though there are none made yet, will probably be at 4096p.

Quite big numbers here. I hope they are worth ;)!

Can't wait for it. Oh, and, by the way, which software are you using for video-editing? I'm just curious...

Awwwww, such a cuty!

I remember seeing this one somewhere (not the animation, the little pet :3). Your first animation is amazing: very smooth, good movement. Even the tail is moving up and down in line with the body.
My main concern here is that the legs seem to move at the same time. They should have a slight delay between them, like the arms have. I'm also feeling the head is not moving enough: I can see a slight oscillation, but its movement may comes directly from neck's.

Giving my two cents there :3.

Thanks for the two cents. :p I did try to make the legs less symmetric, but it's not easy. I was actually rather lucky with the arms and kinda forgot how I did it afterwards. xD

However, I will definitely try to tweak and improve the animation!

Also, as a note: Maybe you guys have noticed the ears are not moving. That's because we plan to try using physics on them so they'll bounce without the need for any animating.

Gosh, I'm going to sound like an ass here. Really like how it looks, barring the eyes, it just feels a little contradictory having bug-eyes on a bunny.

Here's why I didn't mention it: I guess Spanex didn't put eyes there for some reason, or maybe because they haven't found a good solution yet for their form/shape/color so it can fit with the rest.
Spanex wrote:I did try to make the legs less symmetric, but it's not easy
Is it because it's hard to animate each leg at once?

Still moving enough so I didn't find it weird-looking: they could be rigid antennas and therefore wouldn't be able to move that much. ;)
