Are there any major novelties about Rayman Optimum that I might have missed?

Yeah, besides the multiple OS support, nothing is going to change, really. Unless we figure out what the hell is that key problem is (mentioned last page).

The configuration tool I've found to be very buggy to the point where I actually had to remove it and just do everything manually in Rayman.conf. Oftentimes the settings won't save, or the things that I do set seem to configure incorrectly and then get permanently stuck. For instance, I was trying to tell it to run at 1280x800, but when I saved and launched, it loaded in 320x200. I then tried to revert the settings to the 'Original' setting, but when I saved and launched it, it ran in a squished 4:3 at 640x480 and toggling the Aspect Correction option did nothing, and nothing I did could get it out of 4:3. Removing the configuration tool was my only remedy. I've run into other bugs as well, such as literally nothing saving (I'll hit save, then when I open it back up it's all as it was before), and everything aside from Surface causing the game not to load properly (even though manually applying shaders in Rayman.conf works).

So there's obviously holes in the programming, maybe that can be fixed up?

Finally got around to playing through this (installed it months ago but was too busy with other games), and I must say the work gone into this is amazing! The only caveat is the music (seriously, what idiot at Ubisoft decided to implement the music the way it is!? Not only does it totally breaks immersion in some levels due to using an inappropriate track, such as the Tarzan magic seed level, but it is just so awkward to listen to multiple tracks in one level.) Not only that, but why change the sound effect of collecting tings (it sound so lame compared to the PS1 version) and remove the victory fanfare when you clear a level? Who thought that any of this was a good idea?

I know you guys were attempting to restore the music to the way it should be a while back, but it seems those plans fell through? I would like to request if you could please try to make another attempt to get the audio to play the way it should, as well as restoring the higher quality sound effects for collecting a ting and the victory fanfare for completing a level (I heard the Saturn version is slightly higher quality supposedly, although I wouldn't complain if you used the PS1 version track.) I figure Rayman Designer/By His Fans/60 Levels would be more "insert whatever song would be most appropriate" because these games were only released on PC with that wonky way they implemented the tracks, but there are only a few different songs unique to each world so I don't think it would be a problem (for example using only the songs that play in Band Land for Band Land, only songs that play in Dream Forest for Dream Forest, etc.). If this was implemented, this would be THE definitive version of Rayman 1. I wouldn't even care if this took years to do, I would be willing to wait. Heck, I'd even donate money to you guys to do this!

Not to mention the in-game settings reset after saving the settings in the configuration.

Yeah, emshomar tried to find the bit of code that causes the various CDDA tracks to play, but he wasn't able. The idea was suggested of having a media player complement DOSBox for the music, but it was decided impractical due to the use of system resources as I recall.

It most likely wouldn't sound very good if hypothetically inserted as a sound effect, but if the media player idea eventually was implemented, it might work if the PC victory sound was removed.

Also, that alternate track is in the PlayStation version as well, but was left unused for the more refined MIDI track that eventually got used (that allowed for the music fadeout as well).

Is there anyway it could be offered as "DLC" (Like the FLAC music upgrade) then for people with low-spec computers? That way, people with the resources could take advantage of it, to get the genuine music experience, while people without the resources could still enjoy the game without having performance issues. I'm also wondering how this would be implemented for the expansion packs, seeing as how they were only released on the PC with the wonky sound implementation, so there would technically be no "proper" song to use in each level.

Oh ok. I'm mostly concerned with the music playing properly. If you feel the ting sound effect and fanfare would be better left alone then I'm perfectly fine with that. I wouldn't want you guys bending over to please me if you feel it will make your project worse.

Now that I think about it, the ting collected sound effect changes in pitch when you collect multiple ones in quick succession right? So it wouldn't just be so simple as inserting one sound effect and calling it a day. There would have to be several sound effects inserted as well as additional programming to check when to play which sound effect right?

Yeah, I believe I made a suggestion somewhere along the lines of that a while ago if such a thing was found to be possible.

I'm actually not a part of the project apart from having helped Omar with testing on occasion. :P I do know a bit about it since I tend to keep up with this thread, though. But, yeah, I don't believe anyone's found a way to replace the sound effects yet, but hypothetically, I'm guessing that the Ting sound would be impossible due to the sound hardware limitations, but that the fanfare probably would be, if the media player idea was implemented.

The configuration tool is being replaced, so any problems the previous one caused should be fixed. I only experienced saving problems with the old one, though.

Windows, OSX and Linux are the target OS'. Basically anything that can do Java properly.

Hi, I am a new commer of this site, but very interested in the game "Rayman".

I downloaded the file "RaymanOptimum_v140.exe" , installed in Windows 7 64bit.
Then I played "Rayman Designer" starting from the desktop shortcut.
Oh it worked !! (Of course, I set "COMPATIBILITY" for Wondows XP SP3")
But I noticed that there is no choice for sublevels of each world such as Jungle, Music, nor I can choose "User Map" which I create with "Mapper".
RayKit.exe in the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Rayman Optimum" may cause this problem.
Starting Raykit.exe in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Rayman Optimum\RayKit" from DOSBox copyed in the directory, the game gave the capability of choosing maps of each world.

Someone has any clue for eliminating this problem still using the original RayKit.exe in the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Rayman Optimum"?

Thanks in advance.

I found when I first played RD (many years ago) that entering a world with Space Bar didn't give a choice, while entering using the Enter key did. I assume you've tried that though? :bad:

Also, why do the executables need to be run as administrator? When you think about it, it seems a bit suspicious! :P
