I wasn't entirely aware of it being something that was made official in a corporate stance, I thought it was just a thing that fans did to celebrate their franchise.

Either way, I need to rewatch all the Star Wars movies to catch myself up for the Force Awakens, and luckily I'll have a good amount of time for that after my summer classes.
