Funnily enough, despite quite a few folk here being avid users of Linux distributions, we don't have a dedicated Linux thread. Since the Frenches have one, how about we get one too?

So, why did this Windows user make such a thread? Well, having not been too impressed with the shiftiness that is surrounding Windows 10, I've been looking at alternatives. I've got Linux Mint on a virtual machine at present, and I'm deliberating as to whether or not to graduate to dual booting. What do you guys think?

Arch Linux user here! KDE/Plasma 5 is my choice of desktop environment. I love how customisable it is!

Current versions I'm using (not for main machines), is Debian, OpenSuse, and then whatever is running my RaspberryPi for it's RetroPi.

I'm no expert by any means, though I would love to learn more and get used to it. I feel that at the rate Microsoft is going (like with Windows 10 with a ton of issues, especially in regards to privacy) I feel Linux is going to become more and more popular for people. :)

You have a Raspberry pi ? (Yeah Fifo I know you have one)

How do you use it ? (by that I mean if you use it like a phone, a computer or a tablet.)

Yeah, I do. (Does Fifo brag about it a lot? )

I currently have RetroPi installed on mine. http://emulationstation.org/#download

I had it connected to my 1986 Magnavox CRT to try out classic game emulation. Sadly the 3.5mm audio jack on the Pi is extremely weak output. :(

Now that I have a service manual for that TV and an NTSC generator, I should finally get to work on the convergence on the CRT. :)

I have an old original RPi lying around as well, been a while since I've used it, but last I checked it ran a customised variant of Debian.

Hmm, I've done some embedded programming now, perhaps I might be able to come up with a personal project now and do something with it.

With the things he has in general, this is why Humch created a meme about Fifo (which you reused)

ROFL, you still have one of these CRT televisions.

For retro games emulation, I just use my PSP

So? CRT sets have true black levels, zero input lag, and they work with just about any resolution (max can vary) and work with low resolution applications with out issues.

They eat a lot of electricity, they are heating, they are heavy, and they emit radiations.

Not an issue, good for winter, good way to work out and build muscle, and not enough to really care about. :P

So back to Linux, I have used Ubuntu and Kubuntu before. Though I don't think I will ever use those distros. I like OpenSuse better so far.

I've decided to install KDE Plasma 5 onto OpenSuse on my Lenovo. So far everything's going great, except for this little problem with the custom shortcuts.

Ignore the task bar at the bottom, it's text is fixed now.
