Well Sora comes from an Action RPG series, so his moves are either meant to chain long combos, deal heavy damage from limits and skills, or deal different elemental damages. Where Sora (from KH1) can deal differently from other sword wielders is that he's light, has a small "sword", but hits like a truck.
His magic includes Fire, Ice, Thunder, Aero (which lessens damage while doing low contact damage), Gravity, Cure, Stop, Magnet, and (I'm not joking) Balloon; which wields along with some trademark special attacks including Blitz:

He's be kinda like taking Robin, making him lighter, and providing a better balance between physical and magical abilities (and if they wanted to they could just make Sora use the magic not being used by others right now like Blizzard, Stop, and Balloon.)
