Well as a matter of fact, it will still look bad with the extension. It's more like requiring an extension to fit your taste, as smilies just can't look good on non-integer dppx devices. I just don't happen to know a single forum that will look good at 125%.

Yeah, I meant ‘if’ in a general way, should have said ‘since the amount of work is not unreasonable’. If I've made this change I can indeed tune it a bit.

Granted, they're both awful when zoomed in like that, but the blur almost isn't noticeable on my DPI, while the harsh, duplicated outlines and distorted proportions of the pixelated ones are.
Yeah, I've tried it and found it really ugly, but not worse than using aliasing on pixel art.

Like I said, I'm not angry or anything. I thought the wording was a bit OTT and I've let you know, but I value your opinion and I'm glad that you're sharing it here.
I, personally, don't have a preference. But it doesn't matter anyway, let's just have a small poll, see what people prefer, and the most popular option will be retained. All that matters is that this website is as enjoyable as possible for its users.
I've got two for blurry smilies, any other opinions?

The idea is for publishing to be automated from the RSS feed, and I don't believe that it is included in Buffer's free plan. No point in setting up any other service if I have to do it manually.

From what I understand browser zoom is automatically enabled on mobiles now so the site is more mobile friendly, where it used to be a fixed size and looked more like the desktop version. Sometimes I prefer the desktop size but it's not possible to change the page size on mobile as far as I know.

It has nothing to do with browser zoom, only with the width of your screen. Therefore, you can easily imagine that it's not an easy change. I assume that you'd like to switch to the desktop view in situations where some information has been removed to make space for the rest, such as last posters on the forum index. But clicking a mobile view button won't be any faster than clicking the last post link and both will give you the same information (even more for the latter).
In any case, as I said the way phpBB implemented responsiveness would require major changes to the software to have such a button and there's much more important for us to work on at the moment than rewriting phpBB (though, I'll grant you, it could use a great deal of refactoring
).
