Sure, I'll do some icons

edit: I tried learning vector graphics but I can't get my head around it. I did make an icon but it's bitmap so I doubt it's much use, unless there are programs that can turn one into the other

edit: turned into a vector and touched up with some software:

Well the software you used created a horrible source code (as most bitmap to vector conversions would) but I love the result, great job.

Nice, I'll add those to the OP. Do you have read variants for those icons?

I'll see if I can make some later today.
Out of curiosity, when are the "read" icons actually used? I've never seen a forum actually use one before

When you've read all the posts in a forum, you'll notice the icons in the board index don't glow, those are the read variants. You'll probably not see the locked variants since none of the forums have been locked.

Oh yeah, makes sense. Could you send me a PNG of the read icon? I don't think I've ever read every topic in a forum before.

I'll see what I can do, though I probably won't be able to do anything until I get home.

In the meantime, if you want to see the read variants of the icons, you could try accessing RPC while logged out. IIRC, only member's read topics are tracked, not guests'.

Does it matter that the backgrounds are solid colour?

Yes, since, if you look on the index, the background is a gradient.

To be fair, graphical design isn't usually the focus of such contests.

Anyways, I've updated the icons on the OP. Something I just noticed, do the eyes need to be transparent as well, Humch?

Yes they do. The glow layers are also partially transparent.

Since the eyes are so small and surrounded by the actual image, would it even make much of a difference? As they're not contrasted with the background I don't think it would be noticeable, and in the SVG they're shapes that lie on top of the skull rather than holes so if they're to be transparent I would have to re-do the head. And as for the glow layers, I wouldn't think the transparency would be noticeable especially considering how gradual the gradient on the index page is. I could add transparency if you really think it would make a noticeable difference.

They're shapes inside holes - I'm sure you could figure out Flash/Animate if you spent a few minutes with it.

Not on <'s version, they're shapes on top of a solid colour. < used an BMP to SVG converter and it just layered each shape on top of the other.
