Well, I did what Lovy suggested and configured my laptop to use Google's public DNS, thus bypassing the blocking on the smartphone. But I get the feeling that leaves me worse off than before… 
If I could figure out what the DNS servers of my mobile network are, I could just use those.
I don't really need a hosts file on the laptop since I use ABP and NoScript.
EDIT: Or, you know, this crowd look okay!
