And, well, I think I realized why despite R3 being the better game in terms of graphics, story, content, I much prefer playing and replaying R2 and its derivatives.

Everything about R3 sucks so much! The controls suck as to how imprecise are, going off diagonals, missing ledges, terrible response time on the helicopter activation; the camera sucks as to how it completely messes up from one second to the next, turning 90 or 180 degrees, confusing you. It is such an exercise in frustration to make these jumps every time.

Granted, part of it is due to playing on a crappy gamepad (they are all crappy). On a keyboard it's far better (at least you can sort of control the direction of movement), but you still have to deal with the atrociously sticky helicoptering and horrible camera.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.
Better rayman 3 + xbox one controller
or the console versions

Well actually no, they're not all crappy. You use one with 2 analog sticks instead of using a dpad and that makes the game so much easier. You have complete control over which direction Rayman walks in along with the camera controls that way to a more precise level than what's even possible on keyboard (digital). If I'm right, I think analog has 32 directions vs 8 that digital has, along with the ability to make the character walk slower too depending on how far you push the stick. Digital is 8 directions and you have to walk at full speed.

I'm not bashing keyboard or saying there's a problem using it, but analog literally does have more control, it's like comparing a switch to a potentiometer, so I don't understand why all gamepads are crappy?

I personally think you've just been using crappy digital gamepads from what you're saying.

The Xbox One controller is my favourite one also. Xbox 360 ones are good too.

They work if you download DS4 tool but it's just an extra hoop to jump through.

That's actually part of the problem. The sticks are too sensitive and you can't walk straight - always forces some diagonal. And if you reduce the sensitivity, then the responsiveness drops significantly.

D-Pads sometimes suffer from the same directional over-sensitivity problem while losing the analog precision; they are truly almost worthless.

As you can see from our discussion in the other thread, I fully acknowledge the power that the analog sticks bring to the table in titles where it is necessary. I am just not sure there are such titles in the Rayman universe. It is pretty clear none of the 2D games require that, and Rayman 2 does fine without it.

Honestly, Rayman 3 might just be the one game in the franchise where it can be useful; I think specifically while attempting to trace super-precise paths in gem collection, to maximize combos and scores. This is the one area of R3 that I have simply decided not to invest time into, so I have no idea if analog precision is useful/required there or not; however it's definitely not required for anything else in the game.

I know, because I've beaten it multiple times, with the keyboard (and with happy Murfy faces on all levels, so my point-racking ability was not so terrible).

Well, as we agreed in the other discussion - in the end it all comes to what you were using growing up, because for the rest of your life, this is the device for which you will have the highest aptitude and affinity. I'm a keyboard player, so you know why I think gamepads are crappy. :) Although I did play (deliberately) enough games with gamepad in recent years, including most 2D and 3D Rayman titles, just to see how I can do; most of the time I do fine with a pad, but I always prefer a keyboard for a platform game.
Steo wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 1:26 pmI personally think you've just been using crappy digital gamepads from what you're saying.
I've tried both; for Rayman I prefer the analog stick to the D-pad, but still prefer the keyboard to the analog stick; I lose analog precision which I feel I don't need for the ability to better control my unidirectional movement.

The Rayman 3 PC demos, of course, must be played with a pad, because of their atrociously unusable and unchangeable default keyboard control scheme.

Which controller are you using if you don't mind me asking also? The Xbox controllers I use have precise analog sticks that aren't too loose. I truly only think DPADs are good for 2D games, but nowadays they're used to select things rather than control the character.

Don't worry about me, man. I have enough experience with controllers to know their worth. :)

The XBox One controller is good; The XBox 360 controller is not as good (although it's mostly the D-Pad), and none of them is really better than that awesome Speedlink Xeox Pro.

Playstation controllers requires kludges to get to work on the PC anyways.

Just because 90% of the gamers use one of 2-3 pads because that's all they know (and because they are console players after all), doesn't mean that all other controllers are crappy.

I have used all sorts of controllers and I personally prefer the feel of Xbox controllers over PlayStation. I don't hate PlayStation or anything, I just much prefer Xbox. I think it's because I have bigger hands so Xbox controllers just feel more comfortable to me. That and I love the Xbox One triggers. :D

Yeah that's unfortunate for the people who do prefer the PS controllers, where Xbox are plug and play since it's Microsoft Windows.

I was really horrified when playing the HD port and found what Razorbeard and the Robo-Pirates looked like. The developers must’ve forgotten about them or not cared enough. What an absolute mess!

The HD port is a very bad example of Rayman 3 in my opinion, It's just so broken. It seems like it was a case of "hey, let's get this game out there as quickly as possible!". The worst thing was those crappy leader boards which replaced the hall of fame, but everyone just cheated and has scores starting with 2147 because I dunno. I guess like your controversy post in the other thread those people have small features or something.

EDIT: The game is perfectly playable, there's just some things that could have really been improved, especially the sound looping. I just really don't like how the Lums Race codes weren't included.

So I just noticed that Raywiki doesn't actually state the release date for the Xbox version of Rayman 3, but only GameCube, PlayStation 2 and PC.

It probably is, but other sources give completely different release dates than RayWiki even for PS2 and PC, so it's confusing in a way. Either way, Xbox should be there since it's actually on Xbox.
