I actually bought the Hebrew version of Rayman 2 to check. My disc arrived scratched but thankfully only the graphics drivers couldn't be read. The game is the normal English/French/German/Italian/Spanish version.

Figures. I get the feeling it would not be trivial to get that game to render text right-to-left…
 
Bumping this to remind myself that I need to finish this darn game. I've reached the beginning of Hoodlum Headquarters but haven't had time to play in the past couple of months. :(
 
On the third level of HH now, and must restate my impression with the overall quality of the translation and Hebrew voice acting. It sounds very natural, down to the sexy voice of the female announcer that Globox falls for. Hearing Globox boasting his polygon count, formation poses and animations was also hilarious; I completely forgot it was there.

One minor mistake still - went mentioning the "Black Lums Headquarters" the announcer mistakenly associates "black" with the "headquarters" and not "lums", causing a different word to be used in Hebrew. That's a common problem when people are asked to translate text without fully understanding the context.
 
As far as I know, that shouldn't even have been translated, since it's a reference to Black Mesa. Unless there's a translation in a Hebrew version of Half-Life?

Hey I am from Israel.
No there is no Hebrew version of Half-LIfe but the game did get a release here with a Hebrew cover and manual ( most of the games got released like that in the past).

I remember playing Rayman M in Hebrew.
It was a fun game to play and the translation was OK but only the UI was translated (no dialog in the game).
I might upload it to archive.org if I find it.

There is no translation of 'Black Mesa' to Hebrew as far as I know, but even if there was, I'm not sure it would be possible to properly translate the pun. The only complaint I have about the translation of 'Black Lumsa', having finished Hoodlum Headquarters, is that it is inconsistent. In the first level they translated it as if the 'black' refers to the compound, and in the third level, as if it refers to the lums. They must have missed the pun entirely (can't blame them, I also did at first).

So, one more world left to play. Listening to the André-Reflux dialog translated should be interesting. :D
 
OK, finally completed Tower of the Leptys, and with it - the game. Have not noticed any mistakes in translation or notable changes in dialogue. I did realize 3 things I really dislike about Rayman 3's collision detection:

  • In the Crazy Shoe segments it is way too precise, while the controls are really sluggish; it's very easy to constantly be missing by a hair
  • In platforming segments you end up hanging off ledges in situations where you'd think you are safely landing on it or missing it completely.
  • The spray weapon of the Armaguiddon also misses when you think it should hit or his when you think it should miss. This makes comboing the Armaguiddon hoodlums difficult and mostly luck-based (especially since you don't get the 6-second timer like on most enemies, but 2-second like on pickups).

As I was playing the game from scratch, I decided to put in some more effort to improve my scores through better combos. In 6 of the 9 worlds I managed to improve by an average of about 6K points. Strangely, even though I didn't notice any obvious blunders, I got lower numbers on Fairy Council, Longest Shortcut and Tower of the Leptys, so the total only went up by ~24K.

Specifically, I have no idea how I had a whole 6K higher score in The Longer Shortcut before, unless I included the Matuvu in the secret room combo in the first room, which would give me 6K more for the green gem. I tried it a couple of times now and it seems difficult. Anyways, I can always replay later if I feel like it.

I actually tried to submit my score to the Hall of Fame, but it is complaining about remote server issues at the moment... :?

So overall, the Hebrew localization is very nice. :up:

Hunch said he was trying to work on this, it's something to do with Ubisoft discontinuing a service that was used to validate the keys. He mentioned it here.

That's correct, and unfortunately I haven't been able to make much progress since. I'll let you know as soon as it's back online though.

Have you checked the scores topic? It's got advanced solutions on the first page and you can always ask more specific questions there for other scorers to answer. :)

It would be awesome if they could somehow find you the program (or even better, the source to the algorithm) that validates the code and translates it to a score, and then you could just host it locally and be independent of third-party services. Unfortunately when people leave companies, sometimes such things are lost and no one knows how to find them anymore. Hope it won't be the case here...

Actually, it turned out to be much simpler. Because hitting the shoe gives you the extended combo time (like after destroying a hoodlum), it is possible with good timing to defeat the shoe, grab the lockjaw and jump into the secret room before the combo timer runs out, collecting all gems in combo, giving an extra 6K for the last green gem. Did it now and upgraded my score for the level to just over 40K, and the total score to just over 489K, 30K higher than my previous playthrough.
