Unknown Tonic Trouble Costumes + New Codes

Recently, I extracted the textures of Tonic Trouble using Raymap and, by inspecting the "ed2" file that contains the Ed textures, I saw several textures that were not used. After some research on Raymap, by modifying Ed's settings, I discovered that there are 6 costumes for Ed that I've never heard of before.

So I tried to find codes to get these costumes, but without success. But by searching in some files of the game, and more precisely in the Ed\GAMEDATA\OPTIONS\IPT.bin file. In this file I found several lines that refer to these costumes:

  • Button_SkinEdStandard
  • Button_SkinEdJapan
  • Button_SkinEdSalopette
  • Button_SkinEdArmor
  • Button_SkinEdWalkMan
  • Button_SkinEdTerminator
  • Button_SkinEdVert

Here is also the name of Ed's states on Raymap according to which costume is selected:
  • Japan = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x0022F54A
  • Salopette (Overalls) = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x00230B4E
  • Armor = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x002321B6
  • WalkMan = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x0023381E
  • Terminator = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x00234E86
  • Vert (Green) = [gen_cheatCode] Uncategorized Object List @ Fix|0x002364EE

I don't know how to get these costumes, so if someone knows how to do it and can help me, it would be really great!

For those who want to inspect the textures of Tonic Trouble, you can get them here: TTPC_Textures

I also found some codes that are not present on the internet:

  • Lives: Increases your lives up to 9
  • God: Your life comes back on its own when you are hit
  • Pa: Gives you 5 more bees

We have been aware of these for around a year:

We should have really made them more public though.

Raymap doesn't really have a place for input stuff yet so at the moment it prints all of the entry actions (buttons & cheat codes) to the console - for all of the supported games. That's how we found these codes. :)

Really nice to see new people researching the OpenSpace games by the way! :D

Great find! I've never seen these textures before, thanks for sharing!

The one with the blue face and the pink visor, looks like a bootleg version of the original Ed .

Maybe it was designed to activate in detected-counterfeit copies, like that watermark in Windows.

I have experimented a *lot* with removing the protection (and successfully at that), and while I did come across a few traps that freeze the game on random loads, there is nothing that I've seen to activate that costume, unfortunately.

The skin with the blue face is called the Japan skin so it was almost certainly made for the Japanese version. It makes sense considering Rayman's purple body was turned blue over there as well.

The Japanese version ended up cancelled, but was definitely in development at some point, considering the Special Edition DVD has a Japanese audio track for the intro scene of the game.

I was joking. :P That's interesting about the traps though, are they like the equivalent of the pirate head in Rayman 2? Considering that in my experience, an OpenSpace game crash tended to hose the system until the next reboot (back in the WinXP days), maybe they decided a pirate head would be less cruel. :fou:

But how did you get the codes related to the Main Menu? Because I used the method you explained to me, but I can't find them in the console. Also the MODEFLY code does not appear either. So, did I forget to do something or, is it just Raymap that doesn't display all the codes? Or maybe it's my version of Tonic Trouble that's different? I use the French version of TT and, in my console, some codes are different, such as DOC1, DOC2, etc. which become K1, K2, etc. It is the same for POWER1 codes that become just P1.

To be fair there are a lot of things in Tonic Trouble especially that I haven't tried to reverse-engineer yet. The input structure is one of them, so that's probably why Raymap doesn't display all of the codes. For some reason, the game uses entry actions embedded in the SNA files just like all the other OpenSpace games, but it also loads some from IPT.bin and I don't really understand why.

I wonder if it's related to the fact that it was a kind of pilot game for the engine?

I know it didn't necessarily have to do with the topic but I'm trying to download the software "EDDD's Special Edition Popcorn" and "EDDDS OWN" on the Tonic Trouble Speedrunning Wiki but OneNote tells me that it can't open the pages when I click on the links. Could someone please give me download links so I can test the software?
