I would probably find the Ssssam levels more annoying than anything. I will also have to replay the majority of the game by the time I get to the end due to missing Lums.

I wasn't too bothered by replaying the levels, since I usually check everywhere first before leaving.

It's hard when you're not familiar with it though when you consider the very limited view on screen.

Yeah, I guess it's got that in common with Rayman 1 in a way. Also, I'm on Void of Bones...

The dreaded Void of Bones! I thought it was really long, and the bones were kinda annoying to avoid, in some places.

It doesn't help that I missed 10 Lums. :pascontent:

Apparently the "Walking Shell" is now a "Walking Missile", and at one point, Murfy called "Razorbeard" "Razor Beard". I knew the Rayman series was inconsistent, but come on like! :P

"Razor Beard"

I wonder, did they call this game Hoodlum Havoc too or simply Rayman 3? I never looked at the boxart for this particular game...

Well it's inconsistent since he was called Razorbeard in a later cutscene. :P

I'm pretty sure it was Murfy who said it near the beginning of the game, but it definitely said "Razor Beard".

1234 wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:27 pm The main reason why I assumed it to be a Hoover is because GOT4N called the creature in his video like that, and it appears to be the same creature as the one I provided a screenshot of. After all, both look basically the same (except that Got4Ns' is a bit glitched), use the same texture, and both are related to plums - as I mentioned, I changed the state of a plum in Raymap (that's also why the name of the object in Raymap is simply "plum"; the texture is called "plum_machine").

As for the "carnivorous plant", while it doesn't look like a plant, it certainly seems to have some similarities to a venus fly trap (provided my assumptions about the behaviour of the Hoover are right): Both can't do any translational movement and have to wait for their prey. When coming too close, they quickly attack/trap their prey. Once being fed (with a plum/fly), they become harmless for a certain time and you can approach them safely. Also the structure is kind of similar: A "head" with teeth and a neck/stalk.
Maybe it's a bit far-fetched, but at least it'd be an explanation. :P
After giving it a close look, it seems that the thing in GOT4N's video is indeed a glitched version of the model you found. However, it was a wild guess of him to call it a Hoover, and while there are similarities, they do not warrant such a bold assumption.

Therefore, I think it's best to consider this machine a separate thing, and to note that it is indeed connected to the Hoover, sharing a similar function, and that it could be either an early version of it, or derived from it.
Just saw the added note about this on RayWiki, but I do think there is some more evidence to it being a Hoover than what 1234 presented.
The GameCube version of Rayman 3 has fully visible state names, which all call this object a "Plu_Plant". That's how Got4n originally made the connection with the Hoover, a carnivorous plant as well. Considering it has an attack state ("Gnac", but the actual animation underneath is called Attack), it can definitely be seen as carnivorous (unless Rayman is a vegetable).

On the other hand, the state name could just be a leftover from an earlier version, just like how Rayman 3's Rayman still has a "RouleBoule" state for when he lands while moving, even though he doesn't roll in this game (it's a leftover from Rayman 2 where he does roll then).
In this case though, I also think "Hoover" sounds like a weirdly mechanical name for a plant (reminds me of the Hoover vacuum cleaners a lot) so I don't think it's a leftover.

"Hoover" is a nickname for one of our cats, because he'll often find his way to any food that's been left out and eat it all up.

Our dogs have habits of hiding biscuits under things such as the fridge, then you only realise when they go looking for it later and you slide something under it to pull out a biscuit. :P

Well, the English names were most likely created by the localization team. If you're asking for the source, it's probably some early material such as an artbook or the official website. I'm not sure that 'flabard' really means anything in French, though 'paluchard' is indeed based on 'paluche', slang for hand.

It's just called Rayman 3.

Interesting! 'Gnac' is slang for bite so it makes sense they gave the attack state that name. Now we know from the official website that the Hoover was once meant to be carnivorous plant, which this wooden thing isn't, as carnivorous as it is. Either it was originally a wooden device, and they later decided to turn it into a plant, or it's the other way around. The first option would mean that they changed the name of the object but never got to update the model itself, so I think the second one is a lot more likely, and that they simply never bothered to rename the object after giving it a new look.

At least, it seems pretty clear from the evidence you provided that the plant and the wooden device are two different versions of the same thing. Would the second one still have been called a Hoover? I don't know, but contrary to what I said earlier, they probably belong in the same wiki article. We'll simply have to stress that there were two stages in the evolution of this object, carnivorous plant and wooden device, most likely in this order.

If it was just called Rayman 3, it explains to me the lack of Hoodlums, since the game has inconsistencies compared to every other version. Kinda like how the gbc games are.
