Just set myself a new record today. Not stellar, but about a second shorter than what I had before.

28.94 is definitely beatable (with less effort) through some newer strats. Though water controls may discourage to actually want to learn tricks.
 
Speedrunners do use a lot of techniques that people like us either don't use or know about, I didn't even know what a yby-up was until I done the video with RayCarrot for using Murfy the least amount of times. :P

I haven't been into it much so I'm not 100% but as far as I'm aware there is a method to gain more speed boost than usual through consecutive spin attacks through objects.

At least that's what I heard, a more reliable speed boost method came later.
If I'm wrong, WR got like 4+ seconds on my with just movement and possibly 1 better speed boost.
yeah my memory is shady here. YEARS since last time on this xD
Edit: I can help with most strategies as I have pulled off almost all tricks. (some tricks with yby up variations came after I quit more frequent playing of Rayman Legends and some level tricks in invasions).
