I'm not sure how commonplace this is or was (never got Hamachi working for ANY games for the record), but Evolve was setting up artificial online LAN lobbies like GameRanger does, each with it's own joinable chatroom and unique IP-address. I don't think that it was peer-to-peer at all, more like running from a central dedicated server (hence it's shutdown) and it also had a client that was getting updates from time to time like all the mainstream DRM stuff does. Also the corresponding game had to be on a "supported games" listing order to work with the established system.
Rayman Arena had just happened to be on that list and it worked just fine.
GameRanger also has such a list and seems to work the same way on the technical side, so maybe it's worth a try?

There is also a software called Xlink Kai it used for console games but I think it works for PC games as well if you do it right.

I have a new idea for how Rayman M might be canon. The pirates noticed that Rayman was able to win power by racing against Ly, and a few of them decided to trick the inhabitants of the Glade into thinking they wanted a friendly race, so they could win the same power for themselves. Of course, the inhabitants of the Glade were wise to that, and devised this elaborate race tournament, culminating in the Pirate Factory, so they could gather some useful intel while leading the pirates in a merry dance. They also convinced the pirates that they could win even more power with an evenly-matched battle tournament, hence Battle Mode, which allowed them to get in some useful combat training.

Taking this to its conclusion, one could say that Rayman 2's denouement might have been a lot more prosaic than that game made it look – instead of a lone hero (Rayman) taking down the pirate empire, there was in fact a parallel, co-ordinated sabotage campaign by the supposedly-enslaved inhabitants of the Glade, taking place in the background. In fact, maybe the Masks were yet another distraction for Razorbeard, to keep him concentrating on Rayman while everyone else got on with tearing apart the empire from within.

EDIT: Maybe the pirates stipulated that they should also have input into the design of the tournaments, and some of the smarter ones decided that the Battle Mode should culminate in the Glade's Temples, as a quid pro quo for the Factories. This could even explain the presence of pirate cages deep in the Sanctuaries of Stone and Fire and Rock and Lava.

On another note, I seem to recall hearing that it was a glitch in some versions that the Bonus League Battle arena never unlocks. Because I think I have that glitch… Could anyone confirm that?

I do have M on PC, but I haven't actually played it much yet to get that far. I guess once I do, I'll find out if I have the same issue.

Unfortunately my DVD drive might be packing up though, since when I boot Linux lately it keeps reporting how ata1 is slow to respond (delaying startup). I noticed this was listed as the DVD drive, and when I unplugged the SATA cable, the errors stopped. :mefiant:

I always assumed that the Battle Mode bonus level required the races to be complete too to unlock it, and I've never bothered to complete all the race down through the years, though I've finally made some effort in the last few months. But according to the wiki, it should unlock based on Battle progress alone, like all the other Battle Mode levels. I think I saw a glitch mentioned somewhere, but I can't remember exactly. :?

Have you tried installing Rayman M via Rayman Control Panel? That software is your best friend if you're using the game on Win10.
If already using, have you tried to reduce the screen solution? Also, are you using DgVoodoo or nGlide for the graphical settings?

Rayman M be the first Rayman game I've ever played, mostly the demo version that came with Nesquik-branded cocoa powder.
A treasure from childhood I'm playing these days. I love fighting mostly and wish there were more levels.

I almost never touched the races when I was a kid, but I got really into them this year. They definitely have a lot more replayability value than the fights, which are fun, but over too fast like you said.

Agreed, I took an hour or less to complete all fighting challenges and unlock levels (except Spooky Towers in Bonus League that could be unlocked by completing few races).

As for the races, I got into them as well. What I learnt about Popolopoi mode is the fact that you have to know well the place, including alternative roads, in order to beat it as you find extra butterfilies to extend your countdown. I always hated this mode.

Oh, I saw Razorbeard and Wife models on SFM Workshop too! I was even planning to rip and convert these models myself.
Wish they were high poly though...

EDIT:
Dunno if this is the appropriate thread to discuss about this, in case tell me asap.
I just checked Rayman M page and the Popolopoi one and realised that this pirate variant of the butterfly hasn't been shared yet. Unless it was deemed unnecessary, I don't know.
Found in the game files.

The OG Xbox emulator from the Xbox 360 seems to have a glitch (at least the ones with the RGH mod). Occasionally the game freezes when trying to save the state of Rayman Arena. All that can be done is to turn off the console. It's not so harmful when you are playing a single race (since the console actually saves the game, so the progress is kept, but it can't load the next level). The real problem appears in Dark Rayman/Master league. I doubt whether it's possible to win all races/fights in a single row without facing this problem and not losing all the progress. I don't know if this has ever been noticed.

I don't know tho cause I don't have an Xbox, I play the Gamecube version, but I have to say that the races are really easy (Except Water Canyon when there is 1 lap only), but freeze combat on the other hand I think it's hell in Arena. Dark Rayman just gets a gatling gun because freeze shots are unlimited and they don't reload like in the PS2/PC versions, and it's not that hard but it's really annoying and frustrating. You can always restart the same level in challenge mode anyways, there is no reward for doing all of them in a row.
BTW Does anyone know why are there killable red target baby globoxes in race mode, both in obstacle race, and time attack only in pro difficulty? is there like a special reward for shooting all of them in a straight playthrough of the races? because they will respawn anyways if you load the map again. I even thought that doing that would unlock Globox's unused Superman skin. I never tried it because some of the baby globoxes are unreachable as soon as you get to Dawn Sand.
Talking about the Gamecube version, does anyone play using netplay, it's not bad in any way. I'm using version 12716 of the emulator, (I always use the latest beta or monthly update, not the dev versions) i've tried playing some games, recently I played Turok Evolution with a friend and there were no desyncs (some small hangs tho). My laptop is not even that beefy so handling the games (both of which i've talked about) or netplay shouldn't be a huge issue.
If anyone wants to play just message or post here or discord I guess. Ill maybe get on it when I have some free time.
And yes, I have a LAN cable and a very decent internet connection, but I still live in South America so connections to Europe or Asia may be slow.

Found this magazine scan of Rayman Rush and it seems like it was originally called 'Rayman Race'

Thoughts?

I guess it makes sense, since the main difference with the original Rayman M/Arena is that they completely removed the battle mode.

It seems that the page is from issue 079, I've already added a mention of this in the wiki.

Was sneaking around old Rayman websites for the nostalgia purposes and on the old Rayman M/Arena website, there's a band named: "House of love" or "Ripley" (Sorry I can't understand French) credited for unknown reasons. I wonder why...

A quick search doesn't seem to return any results about them, so their identity remains a mystery for now.
