Re: Rayman ReDesigner
Been working on my own 24 levels on ReDesigner. I have Dream Forest, Band Land, Blue Mountains, Picture City, and 2/3rds of Playtopia done. With the custom graphics a thing now, I might focus on recreating a couple of my levels from the Razorbeard's Vengeance fangame.

I tried your jungle levels « Livingstone hunting » and « The forest ponds », nice ones! These levels are easy to play, that's a good point, but maybe they are a little bit too short, if you're planning to redesign them, I'll be happy to play them again!Ray502 wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 1:52 am Been working on my own 24 levels on ReDesigner. Here's my time for both levels:

Glad it gave you a good time!ChronicTraitor wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 12:31 am I also played through the GBC level Rayman Saturn made and LOVED IT! I finally got to play Ubi Cliff for once, haha. The way the bonus stages worked was really neat to see too. Really hoping they make the rest of the levels in the future, that'd be awesome.![]()
Ironically, that’s also been my only way to play Ubi Cliff too!
I’ll try to make Airy Tunes in February, but I’m currently focusing on more important things and I also have to update my previous levels on Redistributor and to remaster Rock’n’Run first, so it can take some time. Rainy Forest should be made pretty quickly afterwards, then I’ll see if I go as far remaking Rocky Peaks and the remaining worlds. Maybe I’ll do a world or two per month.
Oh, you’re the one who created that fangame! I was always curious to try it, but I never got the chance to download it because of the old broken links. I’m sorry if that’s a lot to ask (especially in case you have a personal reason not to make it available again), but could it be possible to make a new download it for it once again? I’d really like to play it even if it’s pretty old, but I’ll understand if you don’t want to.Ray502 wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 1:52 am Been working on my own 24 levels on ReDesigner. Either way, it would be nice to see recreations of levels from this fangame in ReDesigner!

It's funny you mentioned that, I made some changes to the Forest Ponds a few days ago! It takes an extra 35-40 seconds to complete it now. I love tinkering with my levels a lot so I might do more.RaymanRedemption wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 9:13 amI tried your jungle levels « Livingstone hunting » and « The forest ponds », nice ones! I'm actually planning on releasing all 24 levels back-to-back on the ReDesigner website. Still got 10 levels to go, plus some refining on the levels already released, including Forest Ponds.
The game and the GameMaker file are on my old Windows 8.1 desktop. I'll have to get it started up and see if the files are .exe are still there. Haven't used it in almost a year.Rayman Saturn wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:26 pm Oh, you’re the one who created that fangame! It's honestly better if I just recreate some of the levels on ReDesigner. IIRC, the game was good at using up a lot of RAM and causing crashes for certain users. The game engine wasn't mine, it's very old with a TON of coding. But I'll boot it up and see what I can do.

Thanks! That would be very cool if you can exhume it from your old desktop!Ray502 wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:00 pm The game and the GameMaker file are on my old Windows 8.1 desktop. I'll have to get it started up and see if the files are .exe are still there. Haven't used it in almost a year.

But it's fine if you stick to remaking levels instead, even if you can't exactly recreate everything in ReDesigner sadly (like the GBA pirates I've seen in gameplay videos). I guess these enemies can be replaced by the Picture City pirates for example, especially these with Space Mama's weapon.
In other news, I have just updated the ColorFun and DarkLight packs on Rayman Redistributor! The updates bring a few minor fixes and add some content from the Anniversary update in each level, mainly the decorative NPCs as well as a few new objects and enemies. Nothing big, but I really wanted to make these bundles up to date and on par with the Mediafire release when it comes to fixes.
Holy Plum’s Crusade will be updated when Rock’n’Run gets its upgrade as I intend to bundle another version of the level with it. As for the Spooky RayDungeon (which probably won’t be worked on before I complete Airy Tunes), it will go through some major rework to adapt to the new features and especially to the custom graphics...

It’s a nice surprise to see you here! You’re the one who made the GBC Rayman skin available on Redistributor, am I wrong? I’ve made a new GBC skin for my GBC ReDesigned levels using yours as a base, and even if my version of the skin is very different I was wanting to ask you if it would be fine for you if I make it available with GBC ReDesigned (on Redistributor and Mediafire) once it’s truly finalised. I’ll keep crediting you for making the original.
Your reimagined Designer levels are looking great! I’m looking forward to playing them!
Now that I think about it, we should try to establish some sort of standard for subdirectories used in shared levels to make it more convenient, as we really haven’t discussed it here... What do you think is better? Making a subdirectory named after the author (or the name of a series of levels) with all the custom content inside, or generic subdirectories like "backgrounds", "graphics" and "music"?
I haven’t really put that much thought into that before and I think I will update GBC ReDesigned a third time to change it. I went with the generic folders and I now realise it may not be that good and perhaps I should instead make a single "Rayman GBC ReDesigned" folder for custom content.

Here's what I planned for my level pack:
- All 24 levels from Designer in their reimagined forms
- All 4 levels from the Demo Version, also in their reimagined forms
- Some new levels in the mix (Making each world contain a total of 6 levels)
- Each level will have 6 cages, a magician token and a giftbox (A few levels may not have any cages)
- Secret areas that contains a Super Power for certain levels
And for the subdirectory? I'm gonna say A.

That sounds quite ambitious! It’s pretty much the "Redemption" treatment for Rayman Designer’s levels! Glad to see more projects like this!ShinyRaichu94 wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 7:14 am Here's what I planned for my level pack:

A thing that I felt was missing in ReDesigner was the original Designer levels which I thought would be ported or remade for ReDesigner as I expected the game to follow the same path as Rayman Redemption (although I don’t criticise Ryemanni for not doing it as he already put so much work into his games), so this is exactly the kind of thing that I wanted to see.

Re: Rayman ReDesigner
I agree that using directories with the name of the author sounds like the best way to prevent filename conflicts and organize stuff better. The game should handle this, but since it doesn't, it's our best option.Rayman Saturn wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 10:40 pm Any more people’s thoughts on the subdirectories?

Re: Rayman ReDesigner
Version 3 of Spellbound Forest ReDesigned is now live! If you already downloaded the previous version, I advise you to download this one and remove all the previous files as this version contains the definitive standard for custom directories that will be used for all GBC ReDesigned levels. That way, you’ll be able to safely overwrite any files that could return in the next worlds (like the world maps and some audio files).
Sorry for the inconvenience if you already played the level.
Here are the changes:
-The custom files are now all part of a "Rayman GBC ReDesigned" subdirectory, which itself is part of the new "Mortamon Saturn" subdirectory. The generic "Graphics" and "Music" are no longer a thing.
-Moved the final portal in the first bonus of Spellbound Forest so you’re more likely to go through it when jumping to grab the last Ting.
-Added an indication in the World Map so you know the sign will make you exit the level.
-The PalmOS Color and Greyscale versions now use the Bonus Intro themes for the Time Attack maps.
-Read.me has been updated to add a few extra details.
Hopefully, this will be the final update! Tell me if there’s anything wrong. Having to link so many tracks and graphics files again is very tedious and so it’s not impossible I could have made a mistake somewhere.
Also, here are some first pictures of Airy Tunes!
Sadly, this world doesn’t blend with ReDesigner as well as Spellbound Forest... The slippery physics are too fast for Rayman GBC (which makes it very hard to anticipate most obstacles and lets you go way faster than the "flying signs", unless you’re walking slowly) and Rayman’s position doesn’t look right on most platforms... This is where running really becomes a problem because the speed you’ll reach will inevitably make you go into spikes, so you’ll really have to walk most of the time... Kinda takes away from the fun of the original Airy Tunes, sadly, but it’s still good enough I would say. The vertical trumpet we got in the Anniversary update will be the real deal...
That’s only the first level and it’s not even fully complete yet, so it’ll take a lot of time before the full release. The hardest part is to create the paths for the fairy "carrying" the exit sign.

Sounds quite difficult to design Airy Tunes, it reminds me this Airy Tunes GCB remake made by RaymanFan1995:

Re: Rayman ReDesigner
I’ve just tried it, and... wow, it’s actually amazing! I’ll say it’s just a missed opportunity not to have used the yellow Band Land platforms from ReDesigner instead and a few things could have been done better, but this is in an incredible take on Airy Tunes overall!RaymanRedemption wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 8:46 amSounds quite difficult to design Airy Tunes, it reminds me this Airy Tunes GCB remake made by RaymanFan1995:

They even came up with an interesting way to add the "moving" exit signs (even if it’s not as elaborate as what I’m doing with the fairies). It’s a shame the creator hasn’t put any screenshots to promote it on Redistributor as that doesn’t make the level appealing, which is a shame because it’s so well made.
The good thing about remaking Airy Tunes in Rayman 1 style is that it’s the easiest to recreate from GBC since the platforms are the simplest from that game and they all have a very close equivalent in Rayman 1 (the fact the level design was also the closest to the original game helps even more, with even a part paying tribute to the infamous "blowing trumpets elevator" section
Also, I’ve tried to use my custom graphics in their version... and it just works! Sure, there are few inconsistencies and so you’ll stumble upon some invisible blocks and some visual oddities from time to time, but it’s incredible nevertheless! So, if you don’t want to wait for my own take, you can download RaymanFan1995’s level and add the custom graphics I’ve made for Airy Tunes yourself with the editor:
That makes it an early access to my ReDesigned version in a way.
Also, I’ve realised the issue about Rayman’s position I’ve mentioned was also a thing in the original (it’s just a bit harder to notice). In Airy Tunes, Rayman looks like he always has a foot floating one pixel above the ground.
As for the slippery physics problem, it’s not that bad once you learn the level but it still feels a bit off compared to the original. At least it gets way better by Level 2.
Speaking of which, Level 1 and 2 are complete! Yes, I’ve been faster than what I’ve anticipated... which isn’t something that happens very often.

Oh great, it's funny that your custom graphic perfect fits the level made by RaymanFan1995 haha
I'll try to stream it tomorrow on Twitch as well!
I totally agree with you, this level is amazing but isn't that well promoted on Redistributor sadly.
