Social media you use the most?

I made a Twitter recently and found it actually benefited me personally waaay more than I ever thought it would. Facebook on the other hand is a piece of garbage I only use to keep in contact with certain people. Never know when I might need their assistance.

I'm starting to check Twitter about every week. Not giving my Facebook though, I only use it to keep in touch with friends and family.

Maybe we could rename this to something like: "Social media you use the most?" and merge it with this thread:
Done and done :)

It is surreal to see the way the two topics were created with almost the same title, merely a year apart, but the reference to MySpace became a reference to Twitter as the former faded to irrelevance. And yet in the 13 years since, Facebook and Twitter have never faded :paranormal:

Interesting indeed. Things like Bebo even vanished and the majority of people these days would ask you "what's a Bebo" if you mentioned it to them.

Interesting how these social media networks like Facebook and Twitter never lose traction though, even if frequent usage for some is just a teen phase. A lot of people seem to use Facebook as adults. Twitter I only really see useful for posting updates on stuff.

Funnily enough we had the exact same conversation in the canteen at lunch yesterday – because the hot/cold water dispensers we have in there are of the "Bibo" brand :fou:

I never heard of Bebo until now. About Twitter, I normally use it to find fan art and follow updates. Facebook can me useful to contact local businesses and sell stuff.

And now I feel really old! In my last few years in primary school, Bebo was the thing to be on! (but I wasn't :fou:)

It was really big when I was in secondary school. The Internet was very different back then though, teens freely wrote stuff there that people would go crazy over these days. They even used to be like "if you're from *insert area* get the fuck off my page".

This was back when not everyone had the Internet and it felt exciting to access it. Nowadays it's just become part of our lives to have it all the time, even having our phones like little pocket PCs. At one point I remember thinking wow it would be so cool to have something as powerful as a computer that fits in your pocket, and now that it's reality it just seems normal.

Then again, I even remember myself and my uncle in the early 2000s saying "imagine phones with coloured screens", then "imagine phones with cameras", and that didn't age well at all. :fou:

The only ones that I use on a somewhat regular basis would be Youtube, just for watching videos or listening to music. I still use Discord and RPC but I'm not around nearly as much as I used to be when I first joined. Otherwise, every other platform I joined I eventually left either because of boredom or, in Twitter's case, drama.

I hope that Twitter doesn't literally "disappear", there is a lot of good stuff in there (like artwork) and many sources for the wiki articles are from Twitter. I've heard some people say that, even if Twitter "dies", it will be bought by someone else and continue to exist with a much smaller user base.

Now Elon Musk has kicked a bunch of journalists off the platform. It really feels like it's gone into self-destruct mode at this point :?

I don't use any (unless this forum counts?); mainly because it just consists of a bunch of celebrities and nobodies saying how entitled or oppressed they are and how they are better than anyone else, plus I could be doing better things with my time.

In terms of Twitter, people keep saying it's all over and it's doomed, but it seems to me that it's got more users than ever and the ones complaining about being banned were the ones forcing others to be banned before, a lot of these journalists are unhinged anyway so all can say is cry me a river.

I pretty much agree with everything Chacanger said (even though I do have an old Facebook account which I only use for Messenger). As for Twitter, the only thing that matters is whether its profitability will increase. It was terribly underperforming its peers before the recent acquisition, so let's see what happens now. Everything else is irrelevant.

Maybe that was wishful thinking on my part then :fou: There is talk of EU sanctions, but thinking about it, they'll probably be hard to make stick…
