Rayman 3 scores

I've only ever played Rayman 3 with a keyboard without n-key rollover (save for HD), and I must agree that some combos were near-infeasible for me. But my lack of skills must have been a factor too.

Never mind NKRO (you rarely need even 6KRO for single-player on a keyboard). My first playthrough of Rayman 3 was on a laptop keyboard with a particularly bad form of 2KRO. I think in some cases it couldn't handle two directions and an action button at the same time!

My memory is hazy now on whether I actually managed to finish it like this, or broke down and plugged in an external keyboard at some point.

For many years I had a keyboard that made the PC beep if I was trying to run diagonally forward-left while charging Rayman's fist. Eventually I wised up in 2016 and got a Razer with NKRO

EDIT: Forgot to reply to this:
It's been too long since I last played Rayman 3, kinda dreading it at this point tbh :mefiant:

I'd say you have a decent chance of improving from your previous high score.
I'm not so sure. The last few times I've played, I've had to restart DOTK7 I don't know how many times to get the first combo perfect. I don't know if I've retained the skills or patience for this, which is probably why I had that nightmare involving DOTK6 (i.e. just before it)! :oops2: But then, if I finally get 100k in LOTLD (big if?), maybe I won't need to bust my backside on DOTK so much :hap:

Reaching 100k points in TLOTLD must be easier than ever for you with at least 4 different ways :D

That's true! I was gobsmacked when I realized the winner had done it despite skipping Part 3!

Yeah, that was definitely amazing. But you can see it's also very easy to achieve those 100k points with not so difficult combos. Also, keep in mind the last fighting section... You have to get the green gems at the very end of the combo if you want to get the maximum score there. If not, you'll miss a lot of points. Apart from that, I don't think there's anything weird with the combos in this level.
If I remember correctly, you were around 90k points... That's very close! Those videos should be enough for you to take some references. ;)

That was my experience too, and while this wasn't too much of an issue for a regular playthrough, it made scoring significantly harder.

That's for sure: even I managed to get that "old maximum" of 121.099 points.

Playing with a keyboard was a terrible experience when there was needed a precise control, not only in Rayman games. For example, I remember struggling in the fight against Razorbeard using the laptop keyboard, but that same boss fight being extremely easy using a controller (literally I didn't even hit the wall controlling the shell the very first time I tried in PS2). I also found the game way smoother doing the 100k points in The Land of the Livid Dead. Definitely I'm not a PC gamer

Me neither, I've been playing on consoles for well over a decade and a half now, except maybe for Age of Empires. Not that I have much time to play games nowadays, though...

I was born a PC gamer and I will die a PC gamer.

Since I started hearing about actual neo-Nazi groups and their shenanigans, that phrase has lost its appeal for me :confus:

Well, here I go with my new score...
TFC: 31369 | CF: 82060 | BOM: 57828 | TLOTLD: 100998 | TDOTK: 89193 | TLS: 37749 | TSBTC: 69673 | HH: 90187 | TTOL: 95656 | Total: 654713

I'm really happy with this score as I improved in every single level, but I have to recognize that it was a bit frustrating at some points. Nevertheless, it was great to replay Rayman 3. Hopefully I'll get the energy to give it another try (or not), but I'm very sure that won't happen in the next days

Well done on your score Dave! But yeah you should take it easy otherwise you might stress yourself playing the game. I know I did when I got my current high score and I'm fairly certain I can do better (although frankly I haven't gone back to play in a long time now so....heh)

You should be able to easily get over 40K in TLS, the fact that you didn't suggests you didn't optimize one of the combos (there aren't so many of them). So you could replay just that and it would add at least 2.5K points to your total score.
