Re: Rayman 2
You're right. To be honest, PS1 games always felt a little different, a little more unique than other systems, probably from the way the graphics looked. And the whole voice-acting thing gives the PS1 port a little more charm. I've been considering picking up a copy myself just to see what it's like, it's not that expensive, anyways.

Re: Rayman 2
I've probably said that many times already, but I wholeheartedly agree with dr_st on the PlayStation version. While some content was cut, it has better exclusive content that Revolution and feels more cohesive than the latter overall. Definitely the most underrated version of the game!
Re: Rayman 2
The PS1 version has its own charm, I agree. For being a PS1 game, the graphics are pretty good, in my opinion.

This is a review on the Dreamcast Rayman 2. I hope you guys like it. I love Rayman 2 so much and I wanna show it. You can critique it and tell me because I do really want to improve my work.

Re: Rayman 2
I have to get it out of my system. We're all psychofans here, so fluff it.
Since few years, from time to time, I keep getting persistent dreams about Rayman 2 remake. Complete overhaul. The game reimagined.
New HUB. Better than Revolution. Hard to explain - more complex, but not bigger areas. E.g. more rich vertically.
Also, specific ares to access to regular, mostly new levels.
New worlds, but utilizing the same assets from the second installment. Everything in the mood of the original game, but levels more open and extensive. Good platforming elements in overall. A bit of overwhelming design in general, but absolutely gorgeous to be inside of it, and play it reimagined. It felt more like a direct sequel or old-fashioned non-standalone expansion for Rayman 2, but with better graphics - like on the new engine, but with very similar or not the same feeling of the gameplay from the 2nd installment with maybe occasional quirks where something works/feels a bit different (like it would feel on earlier stages of the 2nd game development). Textures, nomen omen, razor sharp, but with a nasty smell under a coat of new paint. 20+ years old assets reused all over the place, but in such a manner that you're sunk into it immediately and can't go away. Then you wake up and feel so happy

Neat review, thanks for sharing! I especially like the focus on gameplay, which is a very important element of the game.MaxRabbit wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 2:47 pm This is a review on the Dreamcast Rayman 2. I hope you guys like it. If anything, I'd recommend doing a bit more research to get the names of the every character and object right (e.g. plums which are a staple of the series), but I'm just nitpicking. Keep up the good work!
I'm still not sure I'd prefer a hub over the good old Hall of Doors, but I couldn't agree more that the one in Revolution is lacking in many ways.deton24 wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 10:03 pm New HUB. Re: Rayman 2
I prefer the Hall of Doors too, the hub in Rayman Revolution felt a bit weird (I guess I find it that way because I'm used to the Hall of Doors in every other version). Maybe we'll never see this, but it would be very interesting to play in a hub where you can explore Rayman's world and find new creatures and secondary missions. I'm kinda suprised they've never explored new ideas regarding to Rayman 2's lore.
Re: Rayman 2
Problem with the hub is that it's big and easy to get lost in. By the time you found the level / minigame you wanted to play, you don't want to play anymore.
Re: Rayman 2
I really love the hub world! But it's understandable that it could feel confusing trying to navigate. It's one of the things that makes Revolution my favourite port, though. I'm a sucker for open-world hubs.

Re: Rayman 2
I didn't like the hub world in Revolution, it made Rayman's world seem much smaller. My favourite is the hall of doors, I love the holograms that appear when you're selecting a level and the cosmic floor

Re: Rayman 2
Today I got a confirmation by Pierre-Alain de Garrigues that he did indeed do Rayman's gibberish voice in Rayman 2, not David Gasman.

Was surprised he actually answered (and quickly too!)

Re: Rayman 2
Nice find! From what I understand of the voice acting page on the wiki, Gasman only voiced Polokus, then?

Re: Rayman 2
I'm not sure, the best Raymanian voice credits we have are from the Dreamcast version, and Gasman narrates the intro there. So it's not even certain.
Speaking of voice acting, Murfy and Ssssam both use the same old stock whisper sound effects (but Sam's is heavily edited), so those aren't done by either of these.

Thanks, I have removed both characters from that section too. Let us know if you find anything else!

Re: Rayman 2
Oh geez, you got me
Re: Rayman 2
I am new to Rayman 2 (I played 1 and Origins) and wish to play 2 now.
It seems the Dreamcast version is the best version, but Im having some issues playing it on PC emulation (Flycast) in widescreen.
It seems that no matter what I try the screen either side has missing graphics (Ive seen people mention this before but not sure if it can be fixed)

Appreciate your help.

Re: Rayman 2
Personally, I didn't use the "Widescreen" or "Super Widescreen" options for the emulator. To get a good rendering, you need to modify the "Horizontal Stretching" values to get an image that stretches across your entire screen (for mine, I set the value to 133, I don't know if it's the same for other screens)

OK, it took me several minutes to realize that you were talking about the link in IAU's signature!
In that case, every one of his posts is a rickroll, not just this one…
