Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
Do you think we should include the screenshots Plum and myself documented the name colors and special ranks we had on Record Day? Starting here: viewtopic.php?p=1487948#p1487948

For shame, Hunchman! You can't forget the most important joke day of the year!Hunchman801 wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2024 10:59 am Yes, and should also mention that it's because us staff forgot about it?![]()

Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
Also I believe we should add the removal of several old links from invisionfree forums by plum for September
And also for February 2010 I counted THREE posting sprees on the French boards with over 1000 posts in a day

PluM did much better than remove them, he replaced them with archived links when possible.Greengoop wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:39 pm Also I believe we should add the removal of several old links from invisionfree forums by plum for September![]()

Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
Well the last one might be the one notable thing although I don’t know what happened during that time. And as of today the kickstarter for the board game was released (and it’s quota was met in just 30 minutes lol)

Should this be updated, now that it’s a new month?

Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
I suppose the big one for September would be the kickstarted for the Board Game kicking off...and reaching its funding target in less than an hour. Was there anything else notable that happened during the month?

The events of October have now been integrated into the documentary. Hopefully didn't forget anything important, but please bring it up here if I did!The Jonster wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 5:42 pm I think I will Plum handle the third point tbh, don’t know what happened there. Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
How about adding an entry about the downtime/server issues too?

Are you referring to yesterday? I noticed the site was pretty much down for maintenance all day and I wasn't able to login until an hour ago I thinkFifo wrote: Fri Nov 01, 2024 7:29 am How about adding an entry about the downtime/server issues too?

Yeah, he is. Also, is this really worthy of a mention in the documentary?

Re: The Pirate-Community Documentary
So, what happened is that our server suffered a hardware failure: the hard drive suddenly died on us, rendering the website unusable. I had to spend a good portion of yesterday reinstalling everything from scratch on a new server (which happens to be a temporary one, as I couldn't get access to the new one I ordered immediately). This took a lot longer than a normal migration because I had zero access to the old server during the process.
Now as for the missing posts: of course, our data is carefully backed up to safe, external locations, but the few messages posted between the time of the last backup and that of the hard drive failure were not included. I don't know if and when we'll be able to recover them, as this depends on the nature of the hardware failure, but I'll keep looking into it. I just preferred to restore service ASAP, even with a few posts missing.
And yes, there's a handful of small issues remaining across the site which I hope to fix today. No need to post them here, but you can PM me whenever you spot one if you're not sure I'm aware of it.
That's about it, sorry for the inconvenience. Such hardware failures are totally unpredictable and there was no way we could have seen this one coming.
