To be honest, ever since the pandemic started, everyone lost their minds and stopped being themselves. It's stupid, but that's what happened. You know when you liked talking to someone, and they just suddenly act like you never mattered, even though you never done a single thing wrong on them, that the pandemic really affected everyone.
 
I am under the impression that politics are getting more and more polarized overall, and that the excesses of one side only feed those of the other side.
 
I've heard that apparently since Joe Biden became president, there have been more illegal immigrants trying to enter America, thinking they'll be allowed in because Trump is no longer president.
 
I don't think they are, since they mentioned a lot of them had been caught and deported. They said a lot have been trying lately though.

I don't think right-wing people are cockroaches nor that right-wing people, regardless of nation, are right-wing people because they are frustrated.
There may be frustration but I don't think it brings one side or the other.

It's not right-winged people that I mean to complain about, it's populism. It's the kind of right-winged person that believes Bill Gates is putting nanobots in the vaccines to mind-control the world population. The kind of person that believes in conspiracies and would vote for any party that even vaguely nods to these people. One of these right wing parties in my country nods to these people in a vague way, on purpose (they know what they're doing), and these conspiracy nuts can just interpret whatever these politicians are saying in however way they want. It's the kind of populism that completely takes advantage of the chaos of this situation.

I think Kamala Harris is the best person to win for both the US and the rest of the world, but I am not convinced that if Trump wins the US will fall to open fascism. I'm also disappointed with the alternative Harris is providing, she's too far on the right and she only tries to win over conservatives because leftists will never vote for Trump to begin with.
 
I haven't really been following the campaign and I'm not very familiar with either of the candidates' policy proposals, so I don't have too much to say on the matter. At least, if Trump wins, it will be more entertaining to watch. Harris appears to be much more reasonable, but I don't think she's pro-business enough, despite some obvious efforts to tailor to the centre-right (I am still in favor of more economic liberalism).

Regardless of who wins, I do not expect this election to have a huge impact on either the country or the rest of world.
 
There is always going to be some impact, otherwise they'd just be doing nothing, but I don't expect it to be huge. Don't take my word for it though, let's see what actual measures will be taken first.

Anyway, it's clear by now that Trump has won both the election and the popular vote, so let's hope he behaves. :oops2: But please, stay entertaining too. :mrgreen:
 
I'm most concerned about environmental issues, given that that's what affects us all and will continue to do so for the long term – but it's not like the Democratic administration were making great strides here either (since drilling continued to expand), so yeah, probably not a huge difference in the end. Let us see...

No, but she would most likely stay in the Paris agreement, which trump probably won’t. To be honest, I doubt it’ll effect us in the UK nearly as much as it will them over in the United States
 
Yeah, signing the agreement is nice and all but you have to do something it after that.

Maybe it's a failure of communication, or I wasn't paying attention, but I'm not sure if she had specific, meaningful plans regarding anything :oops2:

Yes, it seems like the US will be in and out of the Paris agreement like a fiddler's elbow! That's definitely not good for prospects of implementation, and I guess even if it were consistently implemented, it probably doesn't go far enough…

I guess Trump has shown some changeability in his mind, sometimes. I wonder if someone could actually convince him that the environment is important. Feels unlikely, but I guess you never know :oops2:

I don't know what 2025 holds (if it holds anything at all :fou:) but I'm finding it hard not to be depressed at the result. The strong feeling of déjà vu for 2016, waking up to news of a Republican "slam dunk", brings back the shock and emptiness I felt then, even if I was basically expecting it this time. I can't help feeling "we're not really going back there again, are we?" especially with the climate and biodiversity crises somehow even more urgent now than they were then. :confus: I guess any environmental progress over the next few years will happen despite politics, rather than with its help. That's… not a recipe for success…

Her strategy was to make Trump voters detract towards her, I was so surprised when I heard her say that she supports fracking. These semi-republican policies (including her stance on Ghaza) are the most important reasons why she wasn't elected I feel like.
 
I feel like Trump had probably a stronger force of voters, since I’m sure a lot of people only voted for Harris because she isn’t Trump

I would be surprised if some people cared so much about those topics they'd decide not to vote rather than vote against Trump whose stance is "harder" on both topics. Not to mention the vote that would be lost from more moderate people. I think there's something much deeper here.
