Oh yeah, most definitely, Origins levels felt more interesting and more challenging as the game continues. I think it wasn't until I reached the second half of the game (like Ticklish Temples onwards) where I started having more flops other than from Tricky Treasure levels, and even some regular levels I had to completely do over because my perfectionist nature couldn't accept not getting 350 lums in a level. On the other hand, the only things that could be considered "hard" to me were getting to the highest level of awesomeness (which i didn't bother doing cuz who has time for that s*it and what do i gain from reaching it? Lums (and ig a trophy in versions other than PC), ironic given what i just said lol) and the 8-bit musical levels. Which to be honest,I think could be accounted for because of the visual effects, which made me feel more disoriented than anything.Adsolution wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 2:56 pmOh I agree a billion percent, I'm really passionate in saying that Origins' level design is significantly better than Legends'. Every inch of Origins is tailored perfectly to the mechanics, so bendy, curvy and precise, and flowing through it is like butter. So many little tricks you can do like diving along little mounds and hills to to give you an extra boost just because you can. Most of legends is just running through flat, empty rooms and jumping sometimes, it's far more rigid and simplistic. Not to mention almost painfully easy to the point it almost puts me to sleep, whereas Origins actually engages my reflexes.Master wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:59 am So I've just beaten Legends completely now (barring getting Lvl 11 Awesomeness and 1m Lums cause I ain't about that kind of grind), and if I'm being honest. I think I prefer Origins' levels more than I do Legends. Now in fairness, I am playing the Back to Origins versions which I know were tweaked, but just in general I found myself more engaged with them.
I think I'll do a proper Origins replay around the Christmas period, but call this a tentative unpopular opinion - I think Origins' level design and theming overall is more engaging than Legend's.
I don't even know how this is a controversial opinion, but apparently it is somehow

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I think that's it really, I found myself challenged a lot more playing Origins, it's telling that the Back to Origin's variants of some levels have had their difficulty lowered (I know for a fact there's way more technique needed for Tricky Temple Too in Origins). I think the only levels I would say were properly legitimately challenging (and not in a cheap way like the 8-bit levels) were some of the invaded levels. Infiltration Station invaded still took quite a few tries.
I can understand to an extent why they'd want to make things a little simpler and easier, for accessibility's sake, and also I think there was a greater focus on interplay (what with things like Murfy - or at least his mechanics, intended to have a more central role looking at the leaked trailer). I will say I think Legends is probably the better game to play in multiplayer, if memory serves Origins when I played in multiplayer often ended up with one person leading and the others kinda trailing as bubbles. But as single-player fares, yeah Origins' is more compelling.

It is true that replaying Origins right after playing Legends has proven quite difficult for me, but I never put two and two together. I'm just hyperfixated on the lack of soul in Rayman Legends.

Ly is Lac Mac's equivalent to Betilla and I hate how she's the most popular

Well Ly doesn’t exist in the Rayman Legends series so you guys should be happy about that! At least Betilla had some cameo in Jungle Run!

Unpopular opinion: they should’ve replaced Ly with Tily in later releases of R2
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
They should have replaced Globox and Rayman with Tily too!

Oh yes, a Tily series would be very curious to see! Let's imagine now what Tily 1 would look like.....

The final boss has to be Mrs Dark, and when you beat her, her cloak falls off and she is revealed to be Ly!

Completely random aside, but you just unlocked a very old memory of mine. That YouTube channel's been around since my early YT days, and their intro (at least in their later videos) was actually the first time I ever heard "Beware the Forest Mushroom's" in any form.dr_st wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2024 9:29 pm They should have replaced Globox and Rayman with Tily too!

Hmm, a potentially evil Ly...I suspect that'd be appealing to some.Greengoop wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2024 9:46 pm The final boss has to be Mrs Dark, and when you beat her, her cloak falls off and she is revealed to be Ly!![]()

Can't be any worse than living under the assumption that the Magician went all turncoat eh?

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Well, I certainly found it very odd the sheer number of users who believed the magician was the same as Ales. I thought it was just common knowledge that he was an impersonator, guess tumblrians didn’t even play origins

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I wouldn't exactly say that was tumblr's or anyone's fault really. Seeing as how lax Origins' was in actually giving context, anyone who looked at how characters like Betilla were turned into limbed alternatives would probably conclude that the was for Dark Teensy to be the Magician. It didn't help that there was a far more more Magician-like looking Teensy in some development screenshots as well, so those who were around and following things might have come to the conclusion that Dark Teensy was just the final design of that process.
That is to say, I very much was of the opinion that they were the same, until ArcaneDarkling's very thorough analysis, I just thought it was Origins retconning things.

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I agree, the storytelling in Origins is so unclear that until then I never really questioned the widespread opinion that the Dark Teensy was the Rayman 1 Magician gone bad, and with his species changed. Sounds kinda ludicrous now that I think about it, but that's the failure of Rayman Origins.

I think one really blunt person thought they were the same one day and decided to broadcast it to the whole community

I don't particularly appreciate the implication you're making that anyone who thought that The Magician was the same across both games were convinced by one solitary, persuasive individual.

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Look, I know I joke around a lot too but let's dial that down for the moment.
I think we've established at this point that storytelling has almost never been a very strong point in the Rayman series. At least from what I remember anywaysHunchman801 wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:17 am I agree, the storytelling in Origins is so unclear that until then I never really questioned the widespread opinion that the Dark Teensy was the Rayman 1 Magician gone bad, and with his species changed.
