God forbid someone call it bs xD
Yeah, The Longest Shortcut is a predominantly platforming level, it's only 3 stages long so it's not too bad if you're not into it, but I find the platforming to be quite creative once you get the hang of it.

Re: Rayman 3
The second hoodlum? I'm guessing this is one of the Spinnaroos in The Summit Beyond the Clouds?
If it's the one I'm thinking of, you need to dodge the snowballs and keep punching away at the hoodlum until it backs into a fire behind it. It'll drop a throttle copter that you can use to climb further up.

Ah, I remember when I gave up for a time upon reaching the first hoodlum I reached in Summit Beyond the CLouds. Simply because I didn't realise there was a red can. Or that I could punch his lights out with a fully charged heavy metal fish.

Re: Rayman 3
I think this where the games could've taken a leaf out of games like Metroid Prime where they have scannable information that can help you figure out how to engage enemies. While it is true that if you go into photo mode whilst locked onto an enemy you can get some information, from what I remember it was mostly just descriptive flavour text than anything meaningful.
Still a neat detail mind, but I reckon it could've been used to greater effect, and also they don't really communicate to the player that they can do that in the game, I only knew about that from reading the manual. Though I supposed I have been told thoroughly about RTFM xD.

I don't know. I think I prefer it the way it is. You can take hints from things in your environment to deduce your expected behavior. To me it is much more fun than reading a piece of text instructing you on what you should do. That takes a good deal of exploration out of it.Master wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:02 pm I think this where the games could've taken a leaf out of games like Metroid Prime where they have scannable information that can help you figure out how to engage enemies.
Now, I can understand if the game was obtuse of very complicated, but Rayman 3 is actually quite simple. Most puzzles are straightforward.
Then again, I do remember there was a guy on a different forum, 20 years ago, that was struggling with the second level of the game (the first one you actually have free roaming after Murfy's introduction). He couldn't figure out where to go, and was asking for a walkthrough.

Re: Rayman 3
Im glad this place is here! I think since i cant take hints well (Autism lol), i have to sometimes look up answers for stuff! However, the game is still clear with most of its instructions!

Re: Rayman 3
I wouldn’t think it’s an autism problem, as a lot of stuff in it and other games are quite subtle

Re: Rayman 3
I suppose that's also true, from a contextual standpoint the heavy metal fist is pretty clearly present so there is an implication that it's part of the solution. To be clear, I'm not saying spell it out directly, to go back to my example, Prime 1 doesn't usually explicitly state (use *this* to defeat *that*), though it does give suggestion in a way that doesn't break the game/reality barrier (x is made of bendezium = use power bombs, is vulnerable to concussive blasts = use missiles).dr_st wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:13 pm I don't know. I think giving that kind of implication, say in this case spinneroos armour are invulnerable to regular blunt force attacks, but an attack of sufficient force or high temperatures can damage it. Would be a decent compromise...hint at the answer, but still give leeway to the player to figure it out?
I suppose at the end of the day though, you can signpost all you want, but sometimes the signs don't speak out, but we have walkthroughs for that so nbd I guess? There's a balance between giving the answer away and giving the player the satisfaction of figuring something out.

Re: Rayman 3
You have The Summit which has 3 parts, it sounds like you're already past the first in the boat, so you've got 2 remaining.
Thereafter there's two more world, one consisting of 5 parts, the next another 5. So about 12 stages to go.

Edit: The fuck is Globox doing? Why did he purr at the female voice on the intercom? Can he keep it in his pants for 3 mins?

Rayman 3 is a pretty short game so I can see that happening xD

Yeah the jokes write themselves really...Globox and his little Andy that he kept in his stomach for a period of time.
