Having problems with putting my oc into origins

Post by EdgyRabbid »

Hello!

Image

This is my OC apollo. and i wanna mod into Origins.

However i was brought to the attention of the fact his hair would act weird in game.

Anyone know what i could do for it to act like normal hair? Or any ideas other ideas?

This thread is kind of old (okay, only a week old) but you should've just asked this in the modding server instead of here :oops2:

:fou: Ignore me then, I'm a dummy

However- this is still a pretty small thing to make a topic over (even though some of my oldest messages and topics are me asking for very small things aswell ). I'm actually surprised there's no general skin modding topic for the Ubi-art games... I think that's a pretty big thing and could have a lot of discussion... :|

But, then again, everyone and their mom knows how to do it anyway, so is it really needed? :lololol:

While Discord servers exist and have more-or-less supplanted forums as the defacto means of technical support and comms, I will say I do lament the change. Forums are much more open to access I feel.

As such, if anyone did want to create a central topic for modding skins into games, and provide guides, I wouldn't see an issue with it (I'd say it'd only be an issue if we already have threads for it, but I've not checked so feel free to point in the right direction). It might be redundant given the existence of dedicated Discord servers, but it can't hurt to have the knowledge on these forums as well, no? God knows Reddit (which is probably as forum adjacent as you can get these days) has saved my arse a few times when I've been needing help for some things.

Hm, I see your point! I apologize to Edge for saying he shouldn't do that. :oops2:

I think I'll make said topic and see where that goes! Thanks, Master!

Edit: There's already a topic for it, to my surprise. No biggie though, I'm glad we have it! Although the name is kind of confusing :|

Yeah I agree. Even though I'm mostly active on Discord nowadays I do miss the times when forums were more commonly used. It makes it much easier to find information since the threads show up in normal search results. It also ensures the information isn't lost to time either as Discord servers can easily be deleted. I also like being able to browse forums and find the information I need without having to join a Discord server. Although the nice thing about Discord is that you only need one account across all servers you're in, making it more likely you'll join discussions, as opposed to forums where you need to create an account in each one, which I think makes it so you have more people just lurking rather than joining in.

As for the topic here, yeah I think it'd be great if there was a dedicated UbiArt texture modding thread with some up to date guides and info! I think most info on here is rather outdated now with it mentioning older tools like TexMod.

I remember watching a lot of Origins mods and jotting down all sorts of ideas for my own texture mods awhile back. I even have an unfinished one I threw together in MS paint on my old laptop. I didn't have the means, but I certainly had the dreams. :hap:

I'm amazed that a thread for texture modding didn't already exist. Well, it does, but it's outdated as you've mentioned. With all the recent projects and activity, it'd be a great time to make an updated one!

Couldn't have put it better myself, I think that note about having one centrallised account is probably the reason why I think Reddit is as pervasive as it is when it comes to openly accessible online communities actually, as I've said before, that place is one of my first ports of call when I've had technical problems simply because it's got the benefits of both forum and Discord (though it is Reddit, so it's got its own disadvantages too) - it's centralised, easy to search and easy to access and archive.

I think we're in agreement that it'd be helpful to set up a more modern and centralised modding thread for modding the UbiArt games, so I'm going to PM the mod team and bring this thread to their attention and see what they think - if we want to use the existing threads then the first posts will need updating and if the OP isn't around then mods will have to deal with. Alternatively, if there is a need for new threads, then mods will be needed to sticky and provide the background for it.

Hmm… My personal preference would be to update the old topic for texture modding in general, but I'd need help in actually updating its content given that I know next to nothing on the issue :oops2:

I did make a modding tutorial for Legends: https://gamebanana.com/tuts/18624

I think it's fairly beginner-friendly, but I still need to make one for Origins :oops2:

And there's also this video:

I hope that helps!

I suppose that, if the TexMod method is outdated, then maybe it would be better to create another topic and add a notice to that one, since it seems specific to TexMod rather than the broader idea of Origins modding? But we'd need someone to write a modern tutorial to begin with!

I could create a topic for it tomorrow with a tutorial. Should it be specific for texture modding or UbiArt modding in general though?

That would be great! I think the more content the better, and because people who modify textures will most likely want to change other things too, I think UbiArt modding in general would be perfect.

Alright! I'll go ahead and create it then. On a similar note I also noticed that the forum index seems rather outdated. It's missing newer threads and tools, like my Rayman 1 level editor for example.

Thanks, the new guide looks great! As for the forum index, I just added Ray1Editor there. Everyone feel free to suggest any other additions, or to point out any obsolete entries. :)
