That's obviously the one Dave had in mind!

Re: Video Games Knowledge Quiz - Season 5 - DaveRattlehead
They have it in common that they're released for a lot of consoles? They both received incredibly bad ports?
GTA SA was the definining game of the PS2 (arguably, but I think so) while Rayman 2 was the definining game of the Sega Dreamcast (arguably, but I think Sonic Adventures or whatever was more popular).
I am pretty sure it's not an engine issue, I know Donald Duck Quack Attack uses the same engine but I can't imagine for the life of me that GTA SA does as well.

Re: Video Games Knowledge Quiz - Season 5 - DaveRattlehead
That was a pretty interesting way to describe any game from the early 2000s. But no, I'm referring to something more specific, although liking both is pretty specific, I have to saydr_st wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:44 amOooh, this is way too generic a question! There are many things one can think of. What are the odds of me guessing what you had in mind?DaveRattlehead wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:45 pm What do Rayman 2 and GTA: San Andreas have in common?![]()
I'm going to propose the following options:
- Both are 3D games played largely in the 3rd person
- They were both released at the end of October (R2 in 1999, GTA:SA in 2004 - the first PS2 release, other ports came later)
- The early retail copies came with a physical manual and map
- Worldwide retail versions included English, French, German, Italian and Spanish languages
- dr_st (that is me) likes both games
It's focused on the technical side. More specifically, on the PS2 version of both games.

I'm guessing, but is it the use of Renderware? I've no idea if San Andreas uses it, I'm taking a complete shot in the dark here.

Indeed, both Rayman Revolution and GTA San Andreas use Renderware as game engine! Crazy, right? This is the only version of Rayman 2 that is run in Renderware.

I cannot for the life of my remember the name of it, I remember it being an old school (potential Atari?) maze game. My years of watching Guru Larry have failed me.

Dang, I’m not going to know the answer to the normal question then. Farthest I got back was A Link to the Past.
I only know Rayman 2, Rayman M, and GTA: San Andreas. There’s probably more GTA games out there that also use renderware though.

"Rayman Revolution is not a remake" is a debatable statement at best…Greengoop wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 7:29 am It’s the most complete version that isn’t a remake, and that fact is shared with GTA SA

Re: Video Games Knowledge Quiz - Season 5 - DaveRattlehead
The game was ported to a better game engine so they could improve textures etc., so it can be considered a remake!
None of you are correct, but Master was very, very close. That should be a clue.

I will say I posted because I knew full well I'd end up looking it up cause it was going to bother me - posting that was mostly just to make sure I could look it up guilt free xD
As for Revolution, I'd class it as a remake considering a good chunk of existing content was redone and expanded upon, much like a traditional remake to me. I will say, while I'm not 100% on this, didn't the Dreamcast version have higher quality textures compared to Revolution?

Is it the game “Adventure” on the Atari? I remember seeing it in Ready Player 1!

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare? My mind wants to say it's a pop culture thing but random punt I'm afraid.

There's a song named "Try it out" which was included in Black Ops 2, but the song wasn't composed specifically for that game.
