Why did Internet protocols go from IPV4 to IPV6, skipping IPV5 altogether?
Because there already was an (experimental) protocol using the same ethertype (0x800) as IPv4 and version 5 in the header. It was not a full-fledged Internet Protocol, and wasn't called IPv5, but to avoid confusion, the next generation Internet Protocol was given the number 6.

I thought it didn't exist actually. So it was incorporated under a different protocol that ultimately never released (because it was experimental)?

I don't know the answer, but I'm slightly curious as to why so many people are making such precise guesses when Pirez specified a ±50 tolerance :mefiant:

Well I'm just playing the guessing game and it really doesn't matter if you round up your number or not.
I mean I'm sure Bach didn't just stop at a round number because a round number looks good, just doesn't strike me as that kind of guy.

They play the game correctly : they know that in the original draft of these question there was no tolerance.

But since we have the correct number, I guess we'll stop the count.
