Re: Rayman 1
Not familiar with Rayman Plus, sorry! I originally played the DOS Rayman games on real hardware, and then I transferred my entire DOS PC contents into DOSBox on Windows, and I run everything from there, just like I originally did on said PC.
Isn't Rayman Plus just the game pre-integrated into DOSBox? If so, there should be a configuration application (INSTALL or CONFIG or something) that can, among other things, configure sound effects. If all else fails, perhaps reinstall the package?

Re: Rayman 1
I'm thinking it's probably an issue with the game config. If you can add it to RCP then you can access extended game settings there. If you then press the button to use the recommend settings then it'll reset values so they work as intended on most setups (don't forget to save the changes as well!).

Re: Rayman 1
I've identified the problem with RCP, for some reason the Launch Path puts me at, the DOSBOX manual??? I've tried with no luck the modify the launch path, maybe it's an issue with DOSBOX?
Re: Rayman 1
If you press the button on the bottom-left to edit the emulators and game clients then you can remove the added dosbox installation and re-add it with the correct path (to the exe)

Does anyone know why the Magician's voice is different between the US and Europe? I've never understood why they changed his voice, I always thought the US voice was much more fitting.

Oh wow, apparently when I found it I did post about it here, and forgot all about it:PluMGMK wrote: Sat Jul 12, 2025 12:10 pm Oh yeah, I remember discovering that a few years ago and being like "why didn't I know about this??" And then obviously forgot about it again until you posted it last night![]()

Rayman took damage but there was no hurt animation, not even the sound he makes when he's hurt. I did something similar in Rayman Designer, and I noticed that they had added an animation for just such an occasion, so the whole thing felt more natural!

Nice find! Though I must assume he is the one who translated "panique aux punaises" to "bedbug panic", completely missing the fact that punaise can mean both bedbug and thumbtack (and other bugs too).Game Ze 2 wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 4:42 am Chinese R1 credit

What do you think of the rest of the translation, by the way?
Re: Rayman 1
Normal. But he translated Space Mama's Crater as the volcano crater of Space Mama.Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 7:26 am Nice find! The pronunciation of '大' in Mr. Dark's Chinese name 大黑先生 is somewhat similar to the pronunciation of 'Dar' in English, which is quite interesting.

Is it a problem? If it sounds better, it doesn't necessarily have to be a literal translation in my opinion.Game Ze 2 wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 7:38 am Normal. But he translated Space Mama's Crater as the volcano crater of Space Mama.
I can see that they also used this name in the educational games, maybe the same translator was involved too? Or Ubi just did a good job at being consistent for once.Game Ze 2 wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 7:38 am The pronunciation of '大' in Mr. Dark's Chinese name 大黑先生 is somewhat similar to the pronunciation of 'Dar' in English, which is quite interesting.
Of course, this didn't last long since they introduced another Chinese name for Mr Dark in Rayman Classic.

Some info shared by Rayman Together (Twitter).
It seems someone in his Linkedin profile has revealed that a new project was scrapped around 2021.

Re: Rayman 1
Yeah, this was discussed here a couple days ago.
I don't think that the connection is confirmed between the 2021 project mentioned by VFX artist Duong Huy Thanh Phong, who was working at a studio called Sparx* at the time, and the research conducted by design agency What'zhat, but it's not a crazy assumption to make (both are based in Vietnam). According to archive.org, What'zhat's portfolio already mentioned the Rayman research on June 18 2024, so it's not related to Ubisoft's current exploration of the brand.
An interesting detail is that the current version of the page only mentions Ubisoft Nano as a separate item in the portfolio further down, but the 2024 snapshot makes it clear that the whole portfolio is for Ubisoft Nano ("Ubisoft Nano & Rayman"; in fact, this is still in the title of the current page).
For those who don't know, Ubisoft Nano was a platform of browser-based games developed by Ubisoft Da Nang which got shut down in 2024. Rayman's Incrediballs Dodge was one of them.
It seems to be that the most logical conclusion is that a browser-game based on Rayman 1 and similar to Incrediballs Dodge was once considered but eventually scrapped. Of course, this is only speculation on my part, but I find it a little more sensible than crying over a supposedly cancelled, full-blown remake of Rayman 1 on X.

Re: Rayman 1
Excuse my unfamiliarity with HTML5, but would it have been remotely possible to preserve the webpage containing a browser game such as Rayman's Incrediballs Dodge before it was completely taken offline so it could be played past its service? I know with Flash, you could save a webpage containing the Flash game (that or the game itself contained in a Shockwave Flash file) and then run it in an old version of a browser which still supports Flash Player.Hunchman801 wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 9:49 am For those who don't know, Ubisoft Nano was a platform of browser-based games developed by Ubisoft Da Nang which got shut down in 2024. I don't want it to sound as if I'm blaming anyone, especially since we're discussing a niche browser game probably very few in the community cared about until it came to hindsight, but did anyone think of and attempt to save a permanent copy of the game before it was taken offline? Perhaps even just the webpage file, regardless of whether that content was usable? I'm sure Ubisoft still has a version of it in their data storage but likely have little to no incentive to ever re-release it... who knows if it would ever see the light of day again.

Re: Rayman 1
Have you guys tried looking at the Internet archive? It has a flash replacement called “ruffle” that plays flash games on modern devices!
Re: Rayman 1
I never knew about this; thank you for the suggestion! This seems like a far more practical way of running Flash games. I've been browsing the Internet Archive a lot lately out of curiosity and am always glad to discover tools or media like this.EdgeRabbit wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 10:41 am Have you guys tried looking at the Internet archive? Unfortunately, newer browser games such as Rayman's Incrediballs Dodge do not use Flash due its deprecation in 2020. If the game was run in a browser during its operation, I would assume its assets were at least streamed to the page directly where they may have then been accessible to the user, but I don't have any experience or knowledge with how locked down the Ubisoft Nano player was.

Re: Rayman 1
There are a few snapshots of Incrediballs Dodge on the Internet Archive but I don't think this will be enough to make it work, mostly because this was an online game which relied on a server that it was never possible to archive in the first place.
Re: Rayman 1
Indeed, unfortunately it's not just the game server: all the assets were stored in a storage bucket that was never archived either, so almost nothing of the game has been archived.Hunchman801 wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 11:29 am There are a few snapshots of Incrediballs Dodge on the Internet Archive but I don't think this will be enough to make it work, mostly because this was an online game which relied on a server that it was never possible to archive in the first place.

Re: Rayman 1
In a way it's a shame because we should strive to archive all Rayman content, but to be honest that game was never very interesting to begin with.

I forgot Incrediballs Dodge even existed. So it's lost media now?
