How far can Rayman's hands go?

In the Raving Rabbids minigame "Bunnies never close doors" we can see Rayman's hand closing the doors which looks pretty far from his body so maybe as far as he wants? If this also applies to his feet then he could just make himself as tall asf.

I'd say it differs and depends.

In the animated show, it seemed more like "when you can't quite reach something, so you have to REALLY stretch for it".

In terms of the games, it definitely varies. Though Rayman 2 can throw his fist, it seems to be very short ranged like it is in Rayman M/Arena. Origins and Legends seem to follow that, since he's not very long ranged there either.

Rayman 1 and 3 on the other floating hand have a bit more reach.

Remember he can actually lose a limb and reattach it. So I'd say there's no limit at all how far it can get.

This isn't necessarily true. The ability of a limb to reach a distance far from the origin (being the rest of Rayman's body) does not tell us anything about the force or energy required to achieve this.

Imagine that when you throw a hard punch yourself, your fist leaps out of your arm and is connected by a spring. I guess like an Inspector Gadget. Now imagine the same thing with your legs; inside there are completely compressed springs. You are still competing directly with gravity there.

So ultimately one of the fans will have to make a detailed theory of how he works.

My understanding of this is that Rayman (and his fellow Raypeople) can reach much farther than the average person, but he still has a limit to how far his hands can go. If they stretch past that limit, they detach from his body, forcing Rayman to get close to them in order for them to reattach themselves to where his arms would be. While charging his telescopic fist/foot (remember when Rayman could fire his feet like his fist in the GBA versions of Rayman 3 and Raving Rabbids?) makes it fly farther, at the very most it can only go a set distance farther than he can reach before returning to his body.

Rayman can also detach his head and limbs by simply taking them off himself. How he does this is anyone's guess - as is how taking a strong hit when "fully assembled" doesn't make that part of his body fly off - but we've seen him take off his foot in TV Party and his torso on numerous occasions. When his limbs are detached from his body, I imagine that he still has full control of them and can do with them as he pleases. Also, as shown in Rayman 3, his hands have the unique property of being able to float in the air when detached from him, but I'm not sure what the limits are for how high or far they can float.

However, he can't control his detached limbs if he can't see them or otherwise doesn't know where they are, thus explaining why he had to search for his hands at the beginning of Rayman 3. Also, should Rayman be asleep or otherwise unconscious and his hands or feet are still detached, they take a mind of their own and only stop doing what they're doing once Rayman finds them again. That's the way I see it, anyway.

I completely agree with RayGamer99. It's an important clarification that Rayman's hands become detached at a certain distance. Ubisoft's, meanwhile, can reach deep into our pockets from any location.

What about Valve's hands?

Sounds like this could really be leveraged to Rayman's advantage in combat. Why doesn't he just detach a hand to strike his enemies from behind, then?

I think that he would do stuff like that in combat outside of the games. Elaborate moves like that would probably be tough to pull off from a gameplay standpoint, but there's no reason why he couldn't do that in a cutscene or a TV show.

Honestly, aside from his telescopic fist and a few other tricks, I feel like Rayman's limblessness is underutilized in the grand scheme of things. It'd make for some funny gags, like his limbs collapsing out of exhaustion or actually being juggled by Ly (or someone else), but it'd also serve a practical purpose as well. He could take off his torso and punt it like a soccer ball to hit a far-away switch; he could take off his hands and have them sneak behind enemy lines to retrieve something useful; or he could take off his head, throw it upwards, and activate his helicopter hair to keep him in the air long enough to deliver a message to a higher-up ally. The possibilities are near-endless!

Indeed they are! But you make a good point about the gameplay, such controls would be tough to implement. Hey, at least we got the bodyshot!

The thing is, Rayman's hands never detach during gameplay. In both Rayman 1 and Rayman 3, his hands remain attached to his body, and the fist that gets thrown appears to be some kind of glove that separates from his hands.

Limitation of the animation? Perhaps...

That's a good point, I also wonder why they didn't just make him actually throw his fist. It doesn't sound like it would be more complicated to implement, but then again, I might be missing something.
