Rayman Legends Retold

How do you feel about Rayman Legends Retold?

I absolutely love seeing new art that I can tell wasn't made by AI. In decades past, I never appreciated seeing original drawings the way I do now. Silver lining?
 
Considering he appears in a soccer-related picture and also in RayGamer99's screenshot of the portal that leads to Kung Foot Island, I'm pretty sure that's Mr. Soccer and not the musician. Luckily. :P
 
Yeah, we don't want another Magician fiasco... Although I believe they were always meant to be different characters now, the damage is done.

Gotta say, it seems to me like her bio is actually a rather interesting one, maybe because we didn't really have any information about her in Legends? It feels like they wanted to keep an aura of mistery around her given how she seems to not like to talk about her past and how she bonded with the others which is rather interesting considering her bubbly personality. Or maybe they simply kept it as generic as possible? I don't know if it's just me but this feels as if they are hyping her up to be a rather important character in the story :reflechit:

It sounds to me as though they're teasing the idea of exploring Barbara's origins at a later stage. Probably not in Legends, but maybe in the next game, if we ever get one?

I was on a road trip yesterday, so I'm only just now seeing it. I agree that this bio is the most interesting of the bunch (probably since they didn't tell us jack squat about her before now :mefiant:), and in terms of her personality, she lines up almost perfectly with how I envisioned her. However, I do wonder what else there is to say about her history?

The bio never says anything about her being a princess, so I wonder if they're getting rid of that part of her identity altogether? Legends called her a princess - then again, they called all of the Barbara characters princesses, even those who didn't at all seem like royalty, so maybe we should have always taken that with a grain of salt :oops2: - then Adventures said she abandoned that life for that of an adventurer, so was she a barbarian before becoming a princess, or was it the other way around? And how does her sister Elysia fit into all of this? This is all so exciting! :mrgreen:
 
I have a feeling this "she hasn't shared much about herself" is just a nice way of saying that there isn't much more to add to her character. :P I don't see them exploring this further in the future at all.

As much as I hope they do something with her, this was my number two reason as to why they kept it so mysterious around her in her bio lol either they are really. teasing us or they were very "smart" in keeping it as generic as possible :oops2:
 
The place looks nice! A lot of the environments shown off look brand new, and the Mariachis look a lot more detailed and decorated than before. It's nice to see the Baby Dragon Chefs in 3D, seeing as they will likely be among a small group of enemies from Origins to be redone in the Retold style.

And yes, as we all probably expected, the duck forms are back here (and they look good as well). The idea is funny and they're overall inoffensive since you only spend two levels as a duck, but controlling them always felt like a real pace breaker and one of Legends's lower points in my opinion. :?

Yeah, this is exactly my opinion too. It's quite random which makes it funny at first - definitely a memorable point of the game too - but those levels are not fun to replay.

By the way, seeing this footage I'm just wondering why this place is called Mystic Mesa now? It doesn't seem very fitting to me. It's a mexican food & mexican party/dia de los muertos themed world, so "mystic" really is the last word that would come to mind for me. It feels like the writing team or whoever came up with this name either wanted to make an entirely different game or had no idea of what this world actually contains. (My apologies to the writers, but in fact this sounds a lot like a world name ChatGPT would come up with...)

I think they called it the Mystic Mesa for two reasons:
  • 1: Since all the worlds in Legends are being treated as proper locations in Retold rather than just paintings, they had to come up with names for them that sounded like real areas. When you think about it, "Fiesta de los Muertos" isn't really a location, is it?
  • 2: I imagine they're trying to make these worlds fit in with the rest of Rayman's world now, so they wanted to give them all names that have a similar feel to those of previous locations. It might not fit the world the best, but in a Glade with places like the Marshes of Awakening and the Land of the Livid Dead, a name like "Mystic Mesa" sounds like it belongs there, doesn't it?

Ultimately, these are just names and you can call these places whatever you want - their old names, new names, or some other name you have for them - but I like all the names that they've given the Legends worlds. Retold has made these places feel like real locations that characters would live in and travel to, and I love that the devs put the time and effort into doing that. :)
