Rayman 2 - Is it the Best Game Ever?

Rayman 2 was what got me into the fandom :P And even though I'm a fan of 2D games I loved Rayman 2 [Rayman Rev even better]. I always thought it had the most serious plot [all the plots in the other games were downright silly!]. Looking at say the N64 version now, the graphics are pretty blocky although they were much improved for PS2, but despite that I always found it to be wide and atmospheric.

The Dreamcast version was rather easy though. When I was younger I used to try and speedrun it and could do it in up to 5 hours [after taking a month or two to complete. Rayman 3 on the other hand took me a few days]. Shame my Dreamcast version barely works anymore :( Had one of the smoothest of the framerates of all the versions.

In all, I thought it was the best game of the series. But just imagine what it would have been like if they made it entirely 2D, after seeing that bonus level in the PSOne version.

Rayman2 was the first Rayman game I played, and it felt completely different from the other Rayman games. Rayman3 was fun, but a lot more silly than Rayman2, as I've never considered Rayman2 to be silly, just to be a sort of 'cartoon-based revolution story'. To be completely honest, I've always considered Rayman2 to be quite serious. About four years after I purchased Rayman2 for the Dreamcast, I purchased Rayman Revolution for the PS2. I loved the new 'level select' mode (that is a level with entrances to other levels, obviously), I loved the extended bits, and loved the surprises such as the Robot Factory, different parts of different levels being placed in a different level, but the most surprising boss was the boss of the fourth mask. Grolem1 or something he was called, wasn't he?

Rayman 2 is still one of my absolute favorite action-adventure games. The worlds were well set up, along with health given, enemy positions and health, lums, and generally everything was well-done and well-balanced. (Originality, too.) I wish I knew where I put it, though I have a copy of Rayman 2: Revolution too, anyways.
