Snes used 128 colors usually, TOTAL set (selection of colours for palette) was 15-bit. (In this sense, DOS PC supported about 260 thousands of colours.) But Hunch is kinda right - Nintendo selled then something called Virtual Boy. And don't call these games ugly - you eventually can call it "not rich". "Poor".
