Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
Was there any reason for this discussion at all?

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
People are still talking about this machine thing. The teachers, the jani, the neighbours, the person behind the Spar counter....

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
Actually, all they did on Wednesday was accelerate some particles around the LHC, just to test it. They haven't actually done anything yet. In October (the 20th, I think) they will actually be colliding particles, and something might actually happen.RayRaySerza5 wrote:i know, it was once in a life time xD
I wonder if they'll be able to do anything interesting with their findings...like, if they find the Higgs boson, will they be able to use it to make matter or something...?

I'm afraid you need ten more years of physics courses to understand itspiraldoor wrote:I wonder if they'll be able to do anything interesting with their findings...like, if they find the Higgs boson, will they be able to use it to make matter or something...?

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
I'm gonna be disappointed if the world doesn't end soon.

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
It was an interesting experiment, but it's unbelievable how some people actually believed the world would end. The chances of a black hole being produced alone are just miniscule.

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
And if it did look like it was possibly going to make one, couldn't they just turn it off?
Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
The particles are moving with the speed of light. You can't stop them instantly
.
NOW LETS PARTY !!!

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
What if you put a wall in front of it?
Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
Well they most likely were certain nothing would happen, else they wouldn't risk the whole world for an experiment.

It's not the first hadron collider anyway

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
It's the biggest and most dangerous, though.
FUN FACT: According to quantum physics, there is always a slight but nonzero chance that anything will happen, so, technically NOTHING is impossible.
For example, the odds that the particle accelerator will create...dragons, or something...are probably one in a trillion trillion quadrillion googolplexes, but...it's still possible...

No, that's not possible, you moron.spiraldoor wrote: For example, the odds that the particle accelerator will create...dragons, or something...are probably one in a trillion trillion quadrillion googolplexes, but...it's still possible...
You're not a physicist, so stfu.

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
It IS possible.
Quantum physics.
Look. It. Up.
The universe couldn't exist unless it WAS possible.

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
Explain to me exactly how it is possible that the LHC will create a dragon, then.

Re: Will the world end on Wednesday?
If you ask me, the chances of a dragon being created is equal to the chance of Spiraldoor not saying something retarded in the near future. So, it is impossible.
