Actually, all they did on Wednesday was accelerate some particles around the LHC, just to test it. They haven't actually done anything yet. In October (the 20th, I think) they will actually be colliding particles, and something might actually happen.

I wonder if they'll be able to do anything interesting with their findings...like, if they find the Higgs boson, will they be able to use it to make matter or something...?
