It's quite a different system. The Front has obstacles to be overcome, etc. And it's in three parts. The level-selection level in R2F is meant to be a 2D version of the HoD.

~R3 GBA has a map level, from which you can select one of four level-selection levels, each with its own proper levels. And RRR1 GBA has a level-selection level, from which you can select one of five map levels, each with its own proper levels. Now that I think about it, they're sort of opposites. But I grouped them together, as they're both level-selection level/map level hybrids.

Xenon: The one thing I don't like about the Isle of Doors is the way the camera zooms into the Spiral Doors in a kind of backwards way. It would be better if you just got to see Rayman jump in.

~Also, Rayman moves much quicker in the PC/N64 version of the Hall than he does in the PS1 version.

~~And the PS1 version of the Hall is kind of uglier. Except...it's kind of better in ways, too. Here's a magnificent screenshot I took of it:

It looks like one of those things that's ugly compared to the other versions graphically, but at the same time, that's a very pretty (though trippy) screenshot.

The Front. It's nice, and it gives you alot of freedom. Also, the enemies and extra bosses makes it more interesting.

The Hall could be a sort of island as well. It has a stream, which leads to some kind of coast...

The Hall just is random. It's nothing like we've ever seen before. An island however, that shouldn't be appearing in the middle of space.

It's not really in the middle of space, it looks sort of like it's in the middle of...a map, or something... :?

Actually, I tried to rip the models of the Isle of Doors once, but failed. It only ripped the textures, but I remember they were textures of a map. I think I deleted it though. I'll take a look and edit this post when I find them or when I stop looking.

The Isle of Doors is sort of like a miniature version of the Glade of Dreams.

The Glade of Dreams is like a whole island and the Hall of Doors are just shortcuts to get to somewhere quicker.

It's cool that the Dreamcast has a unique hub from the other versions and although it looks cool, I think it makes the adventure seem pretty small scale when you can see everything at once... The Front is probably the best because it's a free-roaming hub but personally I prefer the Hall of Doors just because it's quicker to get to the next level.

Rayman 3 has the worst level selection system I've ever seen which is a shame.

I agree, but I still prefer the Front the best.

A lot of reviewers actually complained about Rayman 3's system compared to the Hall of Doors. I still remember playing the game, seeing its marker in the Hall of Doors, and the objects by it, and wondering what the level would be about. It really stirred up my curiosity and kept me playing.

Rayman 3 was even more linear in its design, and actually took that feeling away to some degree.

Some people say R3 was the fall of the R series before the Rabbids stole it and really made the series fall.

Bump.

As flawed as the game was, I have to say The Front is definitely my favorite hub, I like the non-linear layout of the place.

I'm with Jonster, I like how you can explore each hub world in The Front and the way you get to levels themselves require some exploration unlike in The Hall of Doors and The Isle of Doors where there's just a level select and you can just go to a level at any given time by selecting it.

As bad as Revolution is for me, I'll admit it had a pretty good hub. But I like The Hall of Doors also, it's cool to be able to explore each world and a hologram displaying what we can expect from each level. The Isle of Doors definitely is pretty graphically cool too. As you guys can tell, I like the hubs from R2 best. :proud:

I like The Isle Of Doors.
The map is somewhat similar to one of those historical-looking-X-marks-the-spot geographical maps.
Looking at it in deeper analysis, that same map hub world is supposed be a miniature version of The Glade Of Dreams World.

It makes sense so that's why I like it.

The way you speak of the Isle of Doors reminds me of treasure hunting, and the masks are the treasure! :)
