Re: New info from old R2 site?
Something I find absolutely aberrant is that trend of systematically calling one's drawings art. It's so widespread now that almost everyone, including respectable people, tarnishes this word when referring to their artworks. It just sounds amazingly pretentious, especially once considered the problem of the definition of art.

Well art is purely subjective depending on the individual, but out of interest what would you define as 'art'?Hunchman801 wrote:Something I find absolutely aberrant is that trend of systematically calling one's drawings art. My subjective point of view is not relevant to such considerations, but I think the definition at Wikipedia is really interesting:Raygirl wrote:Well art is purely subjective depending on the individual, but out of interest what would you define as 'art'?
All I'm saying is that it should not be associated with every non-utilitarian creationArt is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions.

lol Or his "Artist's Breath"
Personally, the "Artist's Shit" is a lot funnier, I think.

Wait, that's a contradiction o_o
Hand up if you think this is art (on a similar theme to Stacey)

and then you quote this:Hunchman801 wrote:My subjective point of view is not relevant to such considerationsRaygirl wrote:Well art is purely subjective depending on the individual, but out of interest what would you define as 'art'?
What 'appeals' to you may not appeal to me, hence art is subjective based on personal opinion. o0oArt is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions.

C'mon, an upside-down urinal is definetly art, no question about it.
Seriously, some weird things have really got into galleries...

True, but my personal point of view doesn't intervene in such a definition, as a result of my first statementRaygirl wrote:Wait, that's a contradiction o_o

Re: New info from old R2 site?
My question was to you was 'what do YOU define as art', not 'what does wiki define as art'. I'd just like to hear what you'd classify as art and what you wouldn't.Hunchman801 wrote:True, but my personal point of view doesn't intervene in such a definition, as a result of my first statementRaygirl wrote:Wait, that's a contradiction o_o

Re: New info from old R2 site?
That definition is bullshit in m opinion, as it not only allows for absolutely anything to be classed as "art", and also implies that anything which does not "appeal to the senses or emotions" is not art. I believe that I know exactly what art is, but there really aren't any words in the English language to describe it.Hunchman801 wrote:Wikipedia wrote:Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions.
I find it difficult to believe that a website which is designed to archive the entire internet, and which we have already seen displaying the Rayman 2 Flash site perfectly, would not have Macromedia Flash...PluMGMK wrote:No, the Web Archive couldn't access it, as it doesn't have Macromedia Flash or something. BTW, my old homepage is gone forever, because I never backed it up before I replaced it. However, the Web Archive doesn't have it either.

Re: New info from old R2 site?
Try googling it and see if it's been cached? You might be able to save some pics or HTML files there.
You should always, ALWAYS have a backup of a site somewhere in like a web design folder or something.

I wouldn't have quoted Wikipedia if I actually knew how to define art myselfRaygirl wrote:My question was to you was 'what do YOU define as art', not 'what does wiki define as art'. I'd just like to hear what you'd classify as art and what you wouldn't.

I also wasn't asking what the absolute definition of art was, I was asking what you define as 'art'. How about some suggestions of what you'd define as examples of 'high art'?Hunchman801 wrote:I wouldn't have quoted Wikipedia if I actually knew how to define art myselfRaygirl wrote:My question was to you was 'what do YOU define as art', not 'what does wiki define as art'.
