I said 'a proper remake'. That is to say, 'a remake which is better than the original'.

Not always. The SMB All-Stars version of SMB1 was better than the NES version. The PS1 and Saturn ports of R1 were better than the Jaguar version. I'm sure there are more but I can't think of any right now.

That's arguable but Revolution made technical improvements and added new features, so it definitely is a proper remake and not a down-port like the rest.

In my opinion revolution was a half-complete update. The new features didn't all work so smooth, but if they worked on it more it would've been really good.

Anyway, we haven't had any new Rayman platforming material/proper remakes since R3 came out

And we won't. Why would Ubi make a proper remake of a Rayman game when they can port them all onto handheld platforms for quick money? I wonder what the next port will be. I hope it's Rayman 3, that will be a first.

I disagree. Super Mario All-Stars's version of SMB1 was inferior to the original. The iconic 8-bit graphics are gone and so are all the legendary glitches. I'd take the normal (definitive) version over than any day. Other inferior remakes which spring to mind are 'Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes' and 'MediEvil: Resurrection'.

As for R1 – I'd hardly call those 'proper remakes'.

Revolution's technical improvements pale in comparison to what the Dreamcast team did – look at the framerate, look at the lighting. Count the glitches. And wonder why they used the N64 version rather than the Dreamcast one as the basis for Revolution.

It added plenty of extra features, there's no doubt about that. But the quality of those features (and whether or not they detract from the experience) remains controversial.

It's a PS2 game, so it should be possible. Perhaps a texture or model downgrade would be required, but it could be done. And if they added some additional content, I would be very interested...

I got a ipa of rayman 2: TGE for the iphone. (jailbroken iphones ftw)

I prepared for the laggiest framerate when I booted it up, after installing the ipa with installous.
All I can say is:
HOLY SHIT.

The thing is an exact port of the n64/PC version, and it has a really epicly fast framerate on my iphone first generation.

Controls are great for a 3d platformer game on the iphone/itouch, and you use one button to shoot, one button to jump, a stick to to move. On the slide parts of levels, you get to tilt instead of using the stick. To move the camera left or right, you slide your finger across the screen.
There's even a option to adjust the screen to the way you hold your iphone.

This is only the first 5 mins of the game, but it is impressing me.

I'm gonna look for the cheat menu in this version of rayman 2, in the trailer I saw the word "cheat" at the top of the hud in one of the videos.

EDIT:
OH MY GOD
GLOBOX VILLAGE IS IN THE PORT FOR THE IPHONE

If you turn around after you climb the crack to the top in the first level, you see a ledge with a exit that looks like it leads somewhere!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!
GLOBOX VILLAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111@@@
But there is no way to get across to it...
I'll progress on, get my lum swinging powerup, and see if a purple lum appears there.

EDIT 2:
OH MY FREAKING GOD ITS A PORT OF THE DREAMCAST VERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT HAS THE ISLE OF DOORS! NOT THE HALL OF DOORS! BUT THE ISLE OF DOORS!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOT GLOBOX VILLAGE IS GONNA BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!]
THE GAME IS A PORT OF THE DREAMCAST VERSION!!!!!
I'm getting my 8megapixel camera and filming right away!

Thanks for the info, Raymale, and for confirming my observation on the Dreamcast content! You can probably expect to find lots of mosquitoes throughout the levels, as well as a bunch of minor improvements that were in the Dreamcast version (tweaked special effects, sound effects, lighting etc.). I wonder if the DLC minigames are included?

I'm wicked happy, because the dreamcast version is the only one I haven't played.
Dangit, can't find my camera.
Though I'll get video as soon as I find it, but for now I'm gonna finish the fairy glade, get my swinging powerup, and go back to globox village.
The DLC minigames might be there.

It feels alot like the N64/PC version, but it uses the dreamcast architecture.
lags a little in the high load areas, but that's only because I have a first gen iphone.

Yep, I see all the moskito's. Plus a bunch of butterflies, and the great music and sounds. :D

This is good news, because this means that the source of Rayman 2 is still available!

I wonder if the barrel glitch in the menheir hills is still possible....
I bet skipping the cave of bad dreams is gonna be patched, like in the dreamcast version.

UPDATE:
There's a way to strafe!
It's not automatic!
You pinch fingers apart to start strafing, then do it again to stop.

It's about time someone made the right decision about which version of R2 to port. I hate the N64 version.

How is loading/saving handled? In the Dreamcast version, I think you could have five separate saves, and if you downloaded the DLC minigames, each of the three minigames took up one save slot (and they were playable by loading them from those save slots).
