well, yeah, it's pretty much the same for me. It's quite challenging to figure out how to get to the tribelle in time, but once you have enough practice it's not that hard anymore.

Most of the combos I play differently from you, which I guess accounts for the different scores. I will make videos at some point so you can see for yourself. I'll try not to let it take ten months for me to do so. :hehe:

Oh please, I don't want that argument again. but seriously, don't act as if the others (Xenon, mostwanted, sfn, etc.) aren't waiting for about a year now for you to reveal your combos.

As for LS and the green gem, I have tried a few times to get this gem for en extra 1.500 points. And yes, it is indeed possible to climb to the top and get down to the second level on time. However, the Crown is quite a bit inside the top room and it is not as easy to take as a yellow gem. Thus there is a serious challenge keeping the combo going after this Crown. Furthermore, when you head downwards you often find one of the moving platforms to be in your way. But without trying one can never make anything work. So good luck.

well, I pretty much think it's possible. Also, I'm claiming for 2 years now that it was possible to get that gem for 1500 extra points, I finally want to prove that I can make it work.
 
I don't want any arguments either, but I have to correct the chronology. A year ago I couldn't have given you any combos. I was incapacitated and wasn't able to play for half a year. I started playing again in the Christmas holiday and got the best score in FC in January this year. I improved this score around springtime this year and I'm in the process of improving it further.

If anything, you could have released your videos in the autumn last year when it was more relevant, but somehow you chose not to.

Anyway, there has been no activity this year score wise, so there has been no-one with whom to talk combos. I think Xenon has lost the motivation for the moment. Sfn left R3 in anger and frustration because I didn't/couldn't give him exactly what he wanted when he wanted it, even though I had PM'ed him all the combos I knew at the time and even though he had a better score than me in FC. As for Mostwanted, I didn't know he played anymore.

I will follow my plan as indicated a few posts ago, that I finish FC and then LS. After that I will take a look at the walkthroughs and update them.

When I reach LS I will try out the green gem combo once again. Could be fun if it worked out. That could mean the big 860k is not a pipe dream.

I would like to ask you to refrain from commenting on my motives and reasons. The picture you paint is very inaccurate and shows just how little has changed in the months of my absence.
 
Oh I remember you second-guessing my motives back then for not behaving like you wanted me to. You called me quite a lot of things at that. You still sound angry, so very little has indeed changed.
 
I am not angry and neither am I here to pick fights. I just saw your post and felt misquoted in a way, which I wanted to point out without formulating a long-winded response.
 
Ok, in any case, I hope you will reconsider your retirement from R3. Your inputs about the game were always spot-on.
 
Hey I have a question for the experts:

I've been thinking about going for a high score for a while (only played it casually so far) and I'm wondering which version is the best for this? I have the PC, MAC, PS2 and Gamecube versions, but could easily get the Xbox one cheaply on ebay if it's the best for a high score. Thanks for your help in advance!

haha, this is the one question I never saw coming from somebody new :D i'm really looking forward to this conversation, and your question really made me laugh.

so well, the way I see it is that you'll have pretty much the same level of difficulty until you get like 845K-850K points in the game (which takes a long time and a TON of effort). From that point I'd probably credit many advantages to the xbox, basically because you have the lums glitch which will be relevant for major combos in a few levels and for minor bonusses for two maximum scores. also you won't have the missing vortex problem you'd hve to face on GameCube; and, for some reason, you seem to be able to jump higher than you can jump in the other versions.

if you can really pick, I'd suggest playing on PS2 or xbox, but if your just starting to play R3 it really won't matter. And reaching scores beyond 800K is a long and very frustrating process that most people just won't do, so...
However, I'd really enjoy having another big scorer around here ;)

also, may i ask, why the hell do you have that many versions of this game? :D
 
Thanks for the fast response. I've been playing the game since '03, I just never got round to high scoring. So you think I should play the one version I don't have? :P

BTW, what was it about my post that made you laugh exactly?
 
In my case I own 3 different versions of R3, but I choose the PC version because it's my main platform. XD
 
nope, I'm not actually saying you should play the xbox version. You know, it's kinda hard for me to believe that you'll go all the way to 840K in this game since I have seen a lot of people giving up really early. I mean, it'd be nice if you could pull it off, I'm just sayings it's veeery hard. and as long as your not going for something like 840K (which is pretty close to the maximum already) then it really doesn't matter at all. The only advice I can give you in that case is, that it's easier for most people to play with a controller than with a keyboard.
it all depends on how far you'll be going, that's all I wanted to say.

I just had to laugh because I had tried to start an argument about this like a year ago, where I tried to single out every advantage/disatvantage the diefferent versions have. I was aiming for a more or less fair competition, but I failed horribly :D
 
Well the MAC version had the slapdash glitch in the fairy council and maybe other places as well (I haven't got very far on this version) which is an advantage obviously. The ps2 and gamecube version must be of lesser visual quality than the pc, xbox and mac versions, which might make them less enjoyable to play again and again... I guess it's between the MAC version with a gamepad, and the Xbox version then.

Also as for how far I'll go, I guess I'll go as far as I can go...
 
I have played R3 on X-Box and PS2 as well. Each of these platforms have their advantages. On X-Box it seems Rayman can jump a bit higher, or easier, than on PS2. On the other hand Rayman runs a little bit faster on PS2 making some combos easier to keep going. If you play BOM, then PS2 is much better to play on than X-Box, while, if you play SBTC I'd say X-Box is the best platform.

I've only experienced playing R3 on the PC and PS2 but I have heard other scorers' concerns. To my understanding, the PS2 offers the best opportunities if you want to exploit glitches in the game (and let's be honest, glitches are fundamental assets with regards to scoring). Getting passed the Knaaren in part 1 TDOTK is far easier on the PS2 and the Razoff glitch can be achieved with significantly fewer restarts. There's also the Lockjaw glitch in part 2 TTOTL, but we haven't discovered how to utilise or even activate it yet...

Another advantage is the Hoodblaster survival rate in TBOM part 3, as MandM explained. If you're looking for a serious score in that level then you'll need the Hoodblaster to survive, and even with a 50% survival frequency this can become tedious.

Since the PS is out of the equation, I would choose the Xbox as the alternative. You will clearly benefit in CF part 2 and probably TLOTLD part 2 as well (although I didn't find the latter part as difficult as other non-Xbox players).

Well if you think the PS2 version really is the best then I don't mind playing that one. First though, I think I'll finish the mac one normally and see if there are any more glitches.
 
You already have most of the versions as I understand it? Then just try everyone of them and choose the one you are most comfortable with. The differences in terms of performance have already been pointed out (although I don't agree with Xenon about the Razoff glitch, I believe it works just as well on any plattform). Some levels just seem easier to play on different plattforms (TBOM on PS2, TLS on PC, SBTC on XBox) based on the success of the top players with these levels. However, all of that doesn't matter if you feel uncomfortable with a certain plattform for whatever reason. Without the right feeling you won't get anywhere and the game will quickly become tedious. What I want to say: Just go with your instinct.

. That is the Razoff glitch. You can get twice, thrice or even four times (this has been done only once, though) the points you'd get for Razoff normally by firing several fists at him as in the video.

I don't know about the Slapdash glitch, although I've heard mystical tales that some versions have an extra Slapdash in fairy Council. This might be related.
