Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
I believe that P.E. and Arts are both things that should be taught in high schools. The whole philosophy between high school as I understand it is to give the pupil a basic knowledge or skill in as many fields as possible, so that at the end of the road the pupil can make an informed choice for the subject where he / she is good in and wishes to specialise him/herself in, and that might just as well be arts then it might be mathematics.
For example, is it unthinkable that someone discovers their ability to make very realistic and beautiful paintings as late as at the age of 15, or that someone as late as in their 18th year suddenly gains a very good and in-depth understanding of mathematical logic?

That's why in Portugal, the Basic School has got "all" the subjects present. I also think it is an advantage in order to the student knowing what he/she likes most to do and with base in that, choosing which studies he/she wants to proceed.Joshua822 wrote:I believe that P.E. and Arts are both things that should be taught in high schools. But then there are those students that arrive to the beggining of High School and have no idea what they want to do, which subject and course they would like more to work with. What this could mean? Are they bad students? They still didn't discover their true interests? Teaching failure?
Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
Elementary school certainly doesn't provide a pupil with experience in every field. I can't remember that we learned about physics and chemistry in elementary school for example.
The aim of elementary school is therefore in my opinion really to make a pupil ready to learn more advanced material.

Yeah I know what you mean being all alone sucks and looked down on but still, I would say hi to new people.Xenon wrote:As I said, in school you need to have friends. It's all very well to sit there high on the social ladder, but you don't understand what kind of school I attended. The students there were by and large a group of very unsociable, stuck-up, university-obsessed individuals. The fact that I remained within the group was the result of a lack of motivation, not a lack of social skills or confidence
I simply used that group as a carriage through secondary school and replaced them with a more reliable group afterwards. I have no particular regrets about my social decisions in secondary school and probably wouldn't change anything.
As for the education debate, I was certainly too harsh when I said the expressive arts subjects should be removed from schools altogether. Maybe those subjects should be compulsory, but should only be graded if the individual chooses it as an additional subject choice. Yes, I think that's a fair-minded system that would work pretty well.

Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
No, I can handle both things at the same time pretty well
While I'm pretty occupied at times with school, I still manage to have enough potential PC time left everyday and do great in school
As for visiting RPC in particular, I have problems there, not due to the time, it's the lack of motivation. A lot of great members are only barely active nowadays, the forums have generally died out a bit (yeah, I know I could contribute more to improve the situation as well), and Xenon is too lazy to boost his R3 score (miss the teasing and the competition)

It's true, the forum has been having low activity...
It will still be like this until the release of the 1st episode of Rayman Origins, I'm sure it will boost some activity in the Rayman Origins topic.

My friend, I'm far ahead of you at the moment. The reason I haven't been playing is because I realistically don't have sufficient motivation to improve my rank position. If you manage to produce a better score than me, I'll be happy to replay a few levels to regain my rightful positionmostwanted82 wrote:and Xenon is too lazy to boost his R3 score (miss the teasing and the competition)![]()
Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
The worst combo is work/RPC, hands down.
EDIT : Since I have a bit more free time on my hands this afternoon, I'll elaborate : In school you constantly are on a strict schedule but it's nothing really tight or overbearing and if you ay enough attention there's not really the need to do your homework (until high school graduation anyway). School is definitely the care-free days.
At work, you're actually supposed to be on the prowl to be the most effective guy ever and most people are there just to judge/shit on you because "you're losing us money", which as sentences go is pretty much akin to "put more effort or you're fired". This tires the body/mind extremely fast and when you're home you don't really want to argue with anybody anymore. Problem is, this may be the end result of any conversation, so you stop talking. And since there's no point in talking, you stop coming. And then you're forgotten.

Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
I don't have such a hard time posting here while I'm at college, though it gives me less incentive to visit.
Another thing is my gaming life/other hobbies. When I'm all done with homework, or it's the summer break, my utmost prioritization is clearing out my backlog of games. Because of that I haven't posted as much as I have in the past on RPC. Oh yeah, I'm also working. But if I'm to be honest, it actually doesn't take up a huge part of my life (or so it feels.)

lol I dohknow why people talk about leaving forums or being too busy ever. Takes like 5 mins to check the new posts and maybe leave a response (unless when writing autism text wall).

Re: Is anyone finding school/PC to be a hard combo?
I can't agree, though it depends on the day. On one hand I thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of school, but on the other hand I found it very difficult to learn in the classroom, and homework is utter trash. You don't really have to learn any new concepts when you're working, it's just a cycle you get to befriend. The challenges you face when working are more subjective and dependent on the kind of job you actually have, and on the off chance you're required to learn something new, it's far easier than anything you learned in school.Pirez wrote:School is definitely the care-free days.
This is assuming you're not in a specialised, high-end field of sorts, but even then, if you are, you've picked a career path directly suited to your interests.
I agree, people making excuses are most likely distracted homosexuals.Keane wrote:lol I dohknow why people talk about leaving forums or being too busy ever. I won't scald you for twisting the knife in my back because you weren't supposed to know this but thanks for reminding me that I was reduced to nothing by this fucking system that favors money over individuality.Adsolution wrote:This is assuming you're not in a specialised, high-end field of sorts, but even then, if you are, you've picked a career path directly suited to your interests.

What fucking care-free school did you attend? I'm in college right now and I have to pay a god damn close eye on due dates. I've barely had time for games these past few nights (except for midnight when I'm tired.)Pirez wrote: School is definitely the care-free days.

Oops my bad, although still my last year of school wasn't exactly a care free one.

Ah, Imco! It's been some time, I know Shroob also is rather busy and only manages to pop in now and then also. It doesn't feel the same without you folks, but it's always nice when you guys pop in from time to time.
As for myself, I'm not having too bad a time, though I imagine I'll probably decline in activity as the assignments start piling on.

Pretty much this. Only had to lower my attendance and put Romano in charge when I got into higher school preparatory classes.Pirez wrote:School is definitely the care-free days.
