Rayman Junior – crazy French version

I’ve been playing the French edition of the PlayStation version of Rayman Junior recenly. I don’t mean just selecting the French language option – I actually downloaded the PlayStation version of Rayman Junior that was released in France. At least I think it was released in France... it’s also got Spanish, German and Italian options on it.

I’m only a couple of levels in, but it seems to be a very different game from the UK edition. The intro sequence is completely reworked: the Magician and Betilla are standing outside some sort of toadstool house. Betilla has a very ugly nose, which looks like a sort of plasticky hole in her face. A ball of light flies through the valley and when it reaches the Magician, it turns into a letter, which was apparently sent by his cousin Andrew (I am not making this up). It contains some sort of magic recipe, which includes ingredients like ‘Irish spring water’ and ‘Scottish spider eggs’. Then Mr Dark comes and steals the recipe, and pumpkins fly everywhere. Then they have some sort of dream where the Magician turns into a clove of garlic or something (still not making this up). Then Betilla and the Magician literally call Rayman on the telephone to come and get the recipe back.

The world map for the game is completely different from the ones used in Rayman 1 and the UK version of Rayman Junior, and it includes a bunch of real-world landmarks like Big Ben, the Statue of Liberty and – oops – the World Trade Centre. According to Wikipedia, the PlayStation version of Rayman Junior was released a month before 9/11. And here are some images to prove that this isn’t some kind of brilliant joke:

The Magician receives the letter
The Magician’s family photo album
Close-up of the letter
Mr Dark steals the letter
Garlic Magician wtf
Ridiculous world map

I’ll upload the game soon for anyone who wants to try it out. (Edit – link)

Is that really Rayman Junior? Isn't it English with Rayman or something like that? Because I remember playing this.

It does attempt to teach the player English (I’m not sure about the Maths part yet), but the copy I downloaded was identified as ‘Rayman Junior’ in the files, so I’m inclined to assume that that was the name used on the packaging (the site I got it from is pretty strict about correct naming conventions). As was the case with the UK version, the game’s title screen simply reads ‘Rayman’.

I've seen this intro before, but I can't remember when...

It is an alternative intro for the learning game.

Too bad that both have poor design quality.

Are you sure that Garlic!Magician isn't just a badly drawn Gnome!Magician? It could be the picture quality, but the garlic you describe looks more like a bouffant Gandalf beard to me. And since he's standing in the garden...
Or maybe he's a bulb, and is trying to dig himself in. So he can turn into a flower. Like the one Betilla is holding. Ugh, what acid does. :( It makes no sense no matter how you look at it.

I already remember! This intro appears in the Amazing Learning Games of Rayman for PC!

If it’s a Gandalf-beard, then it’s a very big one that covers his entire body. And unfortunately the poor picture quality is entirely representative of the game...

I have video from Rayman Junior Helicopter Train and jump (it's my video)
Uh yes, that’s quite nice and all, but it’s got absolutely nothing to do with the topic. As you would have known if you had read my original post, selecting the French option in the UK edition of Rayman Junior and playing the actual French edition of Rayman Junior are two completely different things.

I’ve uploaded the game for anyone who’d like to try it out. The link’s in the first post of the thread.

Do you even know what this thread is about? I don’t give a damn if you were five years old when you found the disc. I don’t give a damn if you’re a ‘pro’ at DOSBox commands. I don’t give a damn that you’ve figured out how to get music in Rayman 1 in Windows 7, even if you did do it ‘ME JUST’, as you proudly proclaim. You have yet to say a single thing which is relevant to the subject of this thread.

Hey, you don't seem to be aware of how lucky you are : he acts that way in EVERY topic. You're lucky he doesn't post that much in the English forums.

I didn't. The only reason I'm not bashing him constantly is that he is trying to behave better. :|
