Re: Rayman Origins
Hey, take it easy! What if they don't gonna do a PC version? I am not gonna buy a game that I don't have console for. If UbiSoft want my suport they gotta make I game I can play without any emulators or anything else I don't have. Aslo it would be nice if they could checkout the community aswell. There are lots of ideas that the developers just ignore. We can hope that the game atleast are modable somehow like Rayman Gold.

Re: Rayman Origins
Well... He did give us Rayman 1, Rayman 2, the concept of Rayman 3 and, of corse, the concept of Rayman 4 (before it deteriorated into utter nonsense) so I don't personally see any reason to doubt him, that's just my opinion though.DesLife wrote:I'm talking about your blind faith in Ancel.
But I suppose believing he can deliver a good game when he has already delivered a legendary game (Rayman 1), a better game (Rayman 2), a good game that could of been better if he had had a bigger role in it (Rayman 3) and a average game that could have been in the same criteriar of the other games if he had been listened too ( Rayman raving rabbids) isn't really what I would call "blind faith".

Talking about him like he's a messiah, like some do here, is blind faith.

From my side I give him a carte blanche.

Jokes aside, he is a pretty damn talented game designer, and he seems to know exactly what makes a game good and what doesn't. He's also extremely creative and very ambitious about his projects, so I can't imagine how he could possibly screw up now. I'd say this 'blind faith' is completely justified.

Well, in the very first post of this thread, you can see a French presentation of Rayman Origins, and you can see it's running on Windows XP. But we don't know if they're actually planning to delay the PC version when the console version are released.CheatCat wrote:Hey, take it easy! What if they don't gonna do a PC version? As far as I am aware "Messaih" means "person who saves". Since, if this goes well, he may save the entire series that title may be justified.DesLife wrote:Talking about him like he's a messiah, like some do here, is blind faith.
I understand that there are a great many very ethuisiatic Rayman supporters on this board, but I'm sure they have all made up their minds by themselves so cannot be accused of "blind faith".

Re: Rayman Origins
All this tizz about the game possibly not being on PC is kinda ruining the excitement for me, if you get what I'm saying
Not sure if anyone gives a shit but there was this other game that came out called Outland that clearly uses the same engine Rayman Origins is using, and from what I saw not only does it look good, it's also been getting good reviews. Hopefully the same will happen with Origins though I really fear crits will knock points off solely because of the Teensies being the other two players aka EEEW RIPPING OFF MARIO AGAIN.
Those screenshots...the dotty, dusty scans don't do them justice. They're just phenomenal

Re: Rayman Origins
I don’t mind character redesigns or story contradictions; as long as they attempt to keep fairly consistent with the other games, I will be satisfied. However, I will be extremely disappointed if this game turns out to be a reboot. I want to play another game in the Rayman series I already love, not a game set in a parallel universe where the previous three games never happened. The marketing (‘how Rayman became the hero we know’) and the new info (origins of Mr Dark) suggest that this game will lead into the existing series rather than trashing it in favour of story simplicity. Well, it better – a reboot would mean that the original Rayman series is dead and the story will never receive a proper continuation. I’m not asking them to be slavish to the already inconsistent continuity of the previous games – all I’m asking is that they call Rayman Origins a prequel and avoid the R-word. One of the developers mentioned that it was ‘more of a rebirth than a prequel’, and went on to say that this was because the game was being designed to introduce the series to newcomers. This is fine. As long as we don’t hear them say ‘We’re discarding the previous games and starting the series from scratch’ or anything to that effect.Phoenixan wrote:Well they seem to be doing more of a reboot/retelling than anything. And more like the kids that grew up playing Rayman 1 or 2 when it first came out are in their late teens or twenties now, so they have to sort of retell things from the beginning, because hell if anyone new to the series is going to know or remember anything.
I don’t see how this contradicts R1 – we are never given any indication as to whether Rayman and Bzzit had met before their fight in Anguish Lagoon; the same goes for the other bosses. They all seem to be under Mr Dark’s magical control or brainwashing, or perhaps they are unbalanced due to the theft of the Great Protoon; the game is ambiguous as to the specifics, but they all seem to have returned to their normal selves by the end of the game.Hunchman801 wrote:How about the mosquito riding shoot'em up sequence? Sounds pretty awesome, most likely inspired from the Jaguar version of Anguish Lagoon where Bzzit could shoot balls of energy with his proboscis, but it might be a bit tendentious in terms of continuity unless Origins actually introduces a new mosquito.
The scene depicted in the screenshot (Betilla serenely levitating in a clearing while facing Rayman and the left side of the screen) looks very similar to the R1 levels in which she gave him his powers. I think the screenshot shows Rayman receiving a shrinking ability. Flying Blue Elves may or may not be involved; I would hazard a guess at not.MeestaNintendo wrote:As well as this, notice the first scanned image where there is a tiny Rayman on some grass with a bug and a giant Betilla? my theory for this is that Rayman has touched a floating blue elf from Rayman 1 (or whatever they're called) and has became tiny, as you can see that he is the same size as an ant.
I noticed the resemblance too, but it’s quite slight and it could just be a coincidence. I’m not sure if I’d like Rayman Origins to reuse Rayman 2’s theme – we’ve been hearing that one for quite a while, and I’d prefer Rayman Origins to have its own unique theme, just like the previous three games. However, I am very much open to the idea of old Rayman music being reappropriated and/or old Rayman composers returning. Imagine if the Band Land section in RO opened with a new version of R1’s Band Land theme.MeestaNintendo wrote:I wonder if this game will use the theme tune which most Rayman games use nowadays (Rayman 2 started it, also on Rayman 3 GBA and Hoodlums Revenge) you know, this tune: http://hosting.raymanpc.com/raytunes/mu ... 20Menu.mp3 as I quite like this tune, it has an epic feel to it!
I think I heard a tiny bit of this melody in the Rayman Origins trailer, at around 1:03 you can hear it in the background if you listen carefully. Hope this means that this tune will once again become the main theme!
This describes my own feelings pretty well. I played R1 at the same age (it blew my mind), and while R2 was perhaps even more amazing, the visual disconnect between the first two games always bothered me. The series has always been quite segmented, unlike (for example) the Mario games, all of which feel like they take place in the same world. The constant reinvention and lack of cohesion in the progression of the Rayman series is something I’ve always wanted to see rectified. R1’s atmosphere and the various elements which combine to create it (the music, the art style, the characters, etc) have achieved a sort of holy grail status in my mind from my decade of wanting them to return, and I feel positively overwhelmed now that it’s actually happening. I still have a hazy suspicion that this is all an impossibly pleasant dream which will crumble away and be forgotten when I awake; the same sensation I felt when RO was first announced.SoundslikeStu wrote:This game is going to be the most nostalgic thing for us all. I don't know about you guys but I played Rayman 1 when I was 5/6 years old. Then Rayman 2 came out and was even more incredible, then Rayman 3 came out and it all seemed to be getting better and better but the only problem was I MISSED the world of Rayman 1. That world was so different from anything I've experienced in games since, the atmosphere, the music, the 2d graphics...Playing that game now makes me feel weird, because it reminds me so vividly of my childhood. I almost get emotional when I think about how much of the stuff from Rayman 1 is making a return, is being explained, and is being kept faithful to fans. 16 YEARS ago. I can't believe that. Makes me feel old seeing how it feels like only yesterday!
I know that it's kinda billed as a reboot and to get new people into the games but I have the feeling there's going to be so many little references, returning characters, in-jokes and nostalgia to last me another 16 years. I'm so very happy that this is being done properly. FINALLY.
Sorry for slightly emotional slightly incoherent post - It's very late here and I just felt like weighing in with my opinion.
Hope you are all well!
Blind faith lacks evidence. Faith in Michel Ancel differs in that it is entirely justified by our previous experience.DesLife wrote:Talking about him like he's a messiah, like some do here, is blind faith.

Re: Rayman Origins
This does seem great, almost too good to be true.
Did Rayman 2 really introduce that tune? I thought Rayman 3 for the GBA was the first with it. Or do you mean the Precipice music (and its variations), which sounds a tiny bit like the intro tune of Rayman 3 (and Hoodlum's Revenge) for the GBA?

Personally, I love it. It'd be great to hear it at some point in Origins, if only as an occasional cue. That little fanfare especially, the
Da!
Da da!
Da da da da!
...bit is just lovely (and pretty distinctive too).

Re: Rayman Origins
Am I the only one who thinks this track is one of the finest pieces of music composed for any game in the Rayman series?
It uses the main Rayman 2 theme (d, dd, dddd-d) to even greater effect than the theme itself.

Yes, I do agree that this theme is awsome, and when I first heard this peice when I was about 7 on the PS1, it made me think ''Damn, this game is epic!'' XDspiraldoor wrote:Am I the only one who thinks this track is one of the finest pieces of music composed for any game in the Rayman series?

For some reason, a lot of people seem to think that the Rayman 2 theme is only part of the music on the Precipice.. it's not. You can hear that little melody hidden away in most Rayman 2 tracks at some point, even before the Precipice. Remeber the menu music? that had the melody in it at the end of the track, and the introduction cutscene also had the tune playing in the background. So I can't see why some people just think that the theme is just part of the Precipice's music.
Re: Rayman Origins
Not sure if this news, but has anyone else noticed the box art image used on the Rayman Origins wikipedia page?

That's the European ratings board icon in the bottom left, isn't it? Colours are a lot better too. The uploader has quoted their source as 'Facebook', but I'm stuffed if I can see where they found it.
EDIT: Actually, a few things are different. The main logo is differently placed, as is the Ubi logo.

Re: Rayman Origins
Well, I consider that theme (from, among others, the Precipice) to be different from the intro tune of Rayman 3 (GBA) and Hoodlum's Revenge. However, it's a really great tune (I sometimes sing it aloud).
Re: Rayman Origins
No you aren't because that's one of the Rayman musics that really makes my spine tremble of awesomeness.spiraldoor wrote:Am I the only one who thinks this track is one of the finest pieces of music composed for any game in the Rayman series?

SoundslikeStu's comment also expresses what I'm currently feeling: I'm being quite nostalgic now.
The very first time I met Rayman was in my 8 years old. I was in a house of an ex-neighbour and I had my first contact with this limbless wonder with PS1's Rayman 1 game. It has been already 10 years! After 1 hour of gameplay, I got immediately hooked to Rayman 1 and the Rayman game series. I only bought the PC version (Rayman Collector pack, although it is a budget version done by a French company) 3 years later (I was 11 then) and in the same year I was able to finish the game with a lot of struggle, I felt very proud.
I bought Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PC at my 9 years old, and I really felt in love with that game. Even more than Rayman 1. Everything stunned me.
At my 12, precisely 7 months after the release of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc I bought this same game for the PC. I also enjoyed the game, but strangely at the same time I was missing the magic of Rayman 2 and I was also missing the very first Rayman game.
Rayman Origins looks still so surreal for me, knowing it will mix several details of the trilogy and we'll know answers for questions that never came to my head that these would be answered 8 years later. It really unquiets me that we'll know more about Mr. Dark's past. I can even believe that we might see his real face. And what about Polokus? Wow. Just wow.
Wow, that's indeed the PEGI rating used in European territory. It seems the cover will be universal, like it happened with Rayman 1.AJack wrote:Not sure if this news, but has anyone else noticed the box art image used on the Rayman Origins wikipedia page?

The European cover looks a little bit better (the colours are slightly richer, the RO logo is a lot better and the Ubisoft logo placement is a little less obstructive), but I still hope the art is just a placeholder until they can come up with something really great. I wish they’d gone with the classic Ubisoft rainbow logo rather than that dull blue swirl but I guess those days are long gone.
I think the cover (both versions) shows a Rayman 1 Hunter at the very bottom, with the massive chin, the spiky black moustache and the purple coat.
On the subject of Mr Dark, I think we might already have glimpsed him on the wall of concept artwork:
storage/9855/92f925907ebbe3aae57f1787a9ec29ac
Look at the bottom. You can see what looks to me like a fellow wearing a top hat and with a dark cloak spread on either side of him. The resemblance to Mr Dark is so slight that I didn’t bother mentioning it when I first noticed it, but now that we know Mr Dark will be in the game, I’m wondering if this might be him.
