I'm torn on whether or not Murfy should be in the game. It might create a continuity error (albeit a minor one) because Rayman didn't know him before R2, but he's just one of my favorite characters and I'd hate for him to be left out of Rayman's big comeback.

They could include anonymous greenbottles, like the ones in the cages in R2 PS1. Murfy himself doesn’t belong here, though.

And look at this:

The same would happen for the Teensies appearance and Betilla. But those details don't matter a lot to me.

The apparent anachronism of the Grand Minimus’s appearance in RO is actually accounted for in R2: he lost his memories when he was locked in that cage in the Woods of Light with three other Teensies – they were unable to remember which one of them was the king – so it’s perfectly logical that he wouldn’t remember his earlier adventure with Rayman. Betilla’s presence in RO may contradict the line ‘Hello Rayman, I’m Betilla the Fairy’ in R1, which implies that this is their first meeting (something we now know to be untrue); I suppose it’s possible that Rayman will lose his memory or something, but most likely we will have to accept this as a minor retcon. It’s only one line.

They're called Lividstones now? Actually, that makes more sense.

You know what would make this game? An origin story for Eig.

CoCoXo, you are awesome.
I didn't think someone had bothered scanning the Gameinformer article yet, but I was wrong. Thanks for telling us.
Someone should translate the article so everyone can read it. Don't have any time now myself...

Here's the first part.

1. The Origins of Rayman

Rayman first appeared on home consoles in 1995, in an episode titled Rayman. Challenging, but with a big dose of fun, the 2D game has found its audience among fans who found the hero's design somewhat...weird. Without arms or legs, but with an adorable cartoon face, Rayman was born in France, specifically in the southeast. He was created by a young man of seventeen named Michel Ancel. Few people know this, but the creator of Rayman initially worked alone before being joined later by four people to help develop his project, and managed to produce in his own house the first installment of Rayman .

Gradually, as time and events pass, the team grew and soon needed to find a place to accommodate all members. Initially, Ancel and his staff developed Rayman 2: The Great Escape in an apartment. But as the development team grew and the apartment became too small, they again changed location, looking for a building with enough space to work comfortably. Eventually, they acquired the 'villa', a 400 year old building, situated in the countryside, in the suburbs of Montpellier.

Games developed in this house were Jade: Beyond Good & Evil, the game adaption of King Kong, and of course the famous Rabbids. The 'villa' also saw the birth of the third episode in the series, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, and soon the rebirth of the game that launched the career of its creator Michel Ancel and renamed for the occasion more than 15 years after its first launch, Rayman Origins.

I like how they list "Jade" and "Beyond Good & Evil" as two separate games.

Woot! New pictures! I'll read the article better tomorrow, but thanks a lot for finding this CoCoXo! :D

Hunters do look human now, and I really like the new design of the mosquito (Bzzit maybe?)

We were also introduced to a new specie called Psychlops!

There's more:
PS3gen wrote:Rayman Origins will take us to the Clearing of Dreams, in which we will know everything about the series' protagonists. We will learn the reason why Globox is blue, why the Teensies are small, where our friends the Lums come from, and a lot more [...]
Yet another name for Rayman's world?

I think Psychlops is just a boss Darktoon rather than a new species. The word ‘Glade’ actually means a clearing in a forest, so ‘the Clearing of Dreams’ is probably a mistranslation, though I’m not sure if it was made by Hunch or the reporter or the site or Ubisoft themselves. Assuming that they’re being literal when they tell us we’ll see why Globox is blue and the Teensies are small, I think we may well get an insight into the thought processes of the Bubble Dreamer himself, which is a fascinatingly abstract possibility.

Chosen pieces:
PS3gen wrote:The Lums, for example, will be used as a currency for new powers, additional lives and 'I dare you' challenges [...] As for the Electoons, they are kept in cages found throughout the game and will provide access, once the collection is complete, to an additional scenario. [...] If you help the Red Wizards, they will give it back to you by opening doors that were locked so far.
@Spiral: No translation error from me, this is a new name in French as well.

Next part.

2: Back to Basics

Rayman quickly became a star, not only at Ubisoft, but in the gaming world in general, through his humor and special designs. Switching from 2D to 3D between the first and second episodes of the license, Rayman 2: The Great Escape persisted with it's rich gameplay and its charismatic characters, such as Teensies. After Hoodlum Havoc and four years of hard work on the Rayman franchise, the Ubisoft Montpellier team wanted to try out a new series, and began working on a new concept now known as Beyond Good & Evil. Followed shortly by the video game adaptation of the King Kong film.

The staff of Michel Ancel were, after all, ready to put Rayman back under the floodlights, and began working on a new game for the Wii. The only problem was that the Wiimote controls were far from adequate, and the Wii is better suited for party games. As the French designer explained:

"Developing a platform game for the Wii was not a wise choice. We wanted to be free to play with the knobs. The party game option was imposing" (?)

Change of plan then, and the unavoidable Rabbids, recognizable from miles away thanks to their "BWAHHHHHH," became legendary. Rayman played only a secondary role in these games, his name even disappeared altogether, like that of Michel Ancel, who then decided to devote himself to more Beyond Good & Evil.

"I worked on the sequel to BG & E for a long time, but we ended up leaving the project aside, which was also relatively large, and decided to do something simple. It was at this time that we came to understand that 2D was a good match for the current generation of consoles, and that it would be interesting to exploit. This seems to be a good time to return Rayman to the front of the stage."

Rayman Origins designer, Sebastien Morin, agrees with and confirms this view:

"We now have the opportunity to make a 2D game much more immersive and impressive than before, thanks to the evolution of technology. Lots of tools are at our disposal. The gaming industry has discovered the simplicity of 2D, which has the advantage of being more accessible and profound all at once."

Anyone who has played the first installment of the Rayman series can confirm how difficult the game is. Many players who have lost their lives while playing did not like the challenge. With the remake, Ancel and his team hope to make the experience more accessible, while keeping a relatively vigorous challenge. The game is mostly controlled with only two buttons, using system key combinations, to obtain the use of powers and triggers.

Chosen pieces (again):
PS3gen wrote:Rayman will benefit, in addition to the powers he already had, from new aptitudes such as the helico, the sprint, punches and kicks, and others we won't mention in order not to reveal too much. The power-ups will rise the power of these aptitudes so that Rayman can run faster and jump higher, for example. However, we do not have all the details on Rayman's new characteristics, as, according to the developers, there are too many to list them all.
PS3gen wrote:[...] the least gifted players will be able - in multiplayer mode only - to turn into ghosts once dead, in order to collect more items and wander in the game behind their comrades, and this until they decide to get back to life thanks to their friends.
PS3gen wrote:Judging from the images we have seen so far and the details that were given about the game, Rayman Origins really seems to be this great adventure we have been waiting for.
