Re: Off Topic
I don’t think his mental state should even be taken into consideration when deciding upon his punishment. He killed almost a hundred innocent people, so he should be made to face the most severe of penalties. I find the idea of showing this man any kind of mercy abhorrent.

Re: Off Topic
i think he deserves a really small prison for the rest of his miserable life
Re: Off Topic
Actions alone should speak for this criminal's mental circumstances. I don't think any judge in the world would empathise with a person's mental state when dealing with crimes this substantial, although I have heard Norway's sentencing laws are rather lenient?
Re: Off Topic
That's what I heard, something like 25 years maximum penalty? This man should almost certainly not be walking free that soon.

Perhaps they should hand him over to the Americans – they’ve got the right idea. He deserves life or death.MrBadGuy wrote:That's what I heard, something like 25 years maximum penalty? This man should almost certainly not be walking free that soon.

I don't know. I honestly couldn't stand it to hear another ''Proud and Free'' song saying that they are the ones who once again saved everybody.spiraldoor wrote:Perhaps they should hand him over to the Americans – they’ve got the right idea. I think that if America joins, that might bring more trouble. That appears to be the same reason Europe didn't let them into this problem. Doesn't mean this has actual meaning though, as my brother is the one who told me this.
Re: Off Topic
If it's true, I suspect Norway will probably make an exception for this guy. There's a difference between being politically relaxed and just being morally unreasonable, after all. Could you imagine the chaos that would ensue if this guy was allowed back into society after just 25 years?

That's another one to add to my list of best quotes.Xenon wrote:If it's true, I suspect Norway will probably make an exception for this guy. Re: Off Topic
Well it depends on a lot of factors, but the guy is obviously unstable, probably too far gone to be redeemable, and the public would have something to say if he were released I'm sure. The chap needs a full psychological assessment but my best guess would be that there's no hope and he should never be allowed to rejoin society
Re: Off Topic
I don't think he'll ever be free again. From what I've read, the maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years in jail, but it can be renewed every 5 years if deemed necessary.

That's a good thing.Matyuv wrote:I don't think he'll ever be free again. From what I've read, the maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years in jail, but it can be renewed every 5 years if deemed necessary.
Say, Matyuv, are you actually from Russia?

I wasn’t seriously suggesting that the Americans should take over the case – I was simply expressing my preference for their particular brand of justice.RayTunes wrote:I don't know. Re: Off Topic
This is correct, so we don't have to change our laws. And if we actually had changed our laws just in order to punish this guy, it would violate several fundamental principles of the Rechtsstaat, and make the Norwegian democracy a laughing stock for the entire western world.Matyuv wrote:I don't think he'll ever be free again. Knowing how the American police acts, it wouldn't be a bad idea.spiraldoor wrote:I wasn’t seriously suggesting that the Americans should take over the case – I was simply expressing my preference for their particular brand of justice.

Re: Off Topic
Hey, not in case of this guy, but what does constitute "necessary"? Does it mean that I can be put for, say, 21 years in jail because I've done something wrong and my enemies can actually make it perpetual jail "because they are alive and so me in jail is necessary"? I hope it is somehow connected to mental state at least (although doctors could be corrupted too...).Matyuv wrote:I don't think he'll ever be free again.
